Jr High Cats split with Madison Co.

Posted by Tony Camp at Mar 21, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
A Game
Cats ceterfielder Chris Tittle led the game off with a triple and things never got much better for visiting Madison County as the Cats A team ended the game early by run rule with a convincing 16-1 victory. Conner B got the start and pitched into the 4th before C J G came on to close things out. Madison Co. kept things close for a couple of innings, but the Cats erupted with 6 runs in the 3rd and 9 more in the 4th. Several players hit the ball HARD in the game, as Conner, Brandon C, Tyler H, Chris T and since I lost track I'm sure some others had multi-hit games to lead the cat attack. The cats played great defense all the way, and would never let Madison Co. get anything going. A solid effort by all.

B Game
The B Cats dropped the nightcap on a close one that saw Madison score twice in the last inning to saddle the Cats with a 6-5 loss. Keeton J went the distance on the mound, and looked in route to the win, but a critical error in the 5th saw Madison Co take full advantage and push across the decisive runs. The Cats batters continued their improvement, hitting the ball hard and often, but couldn't put Madison Co. away.

Cats A & B hit the road for Arab

Posted by Tony Camp at Mar 12, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
A Game
Another great game with Arab came down to the end, but the Wildcats fell short in a 2-1 loss. Tyler H got the start on the mound and did a fine job of holding down the Knights bats, as did Conner B in relief over the last 2 innings. Arab's David Underwood, the ace of there staff, pitched a great game for the knights. Several Cats hit the ball well, but couldn't string enough of them together to dent the scoreboard. Overall a fine game and the kind you like to see, even though not the final score you prefer.

B Game
Keeton J got the start and pitched well into the 3rd. The Arab bats really came alive and turned a close game early into one not so close by the end. Arab played well all the way around, and earned everything they got with some outstanding hitting all day. Conner B & Jay B worked in relief but it seemed no matter who was out there, Arab was just having one of those days on a roll as the B Cats dropped only there 2nd game of the year.

Cats end a weekend of games in Gurley

A Game
In the 4th game in 24 hours for the A Cats, play resumed Sat. evening in the Madison Jr High Tournament with 2 unbeatens squaring off between the Cats and Central Middle. This was a classic pitching duel from the start. CJ G faced off against Centrals ace, Moore, in a battle that looked like the first to score in the 5 inning affair wins. As it turned out that's the way it went as Central managed to push across the first run of the game in the 4th and made it hold up for a 1-0 victory and the Tournament championship. CJ pitched his best game of the year, even in defeat, holding a real good Central team to 1 run in the complete game performance, but couldn't get offensive support to earn a W. Worn out but still standing after the whirlwind 2 days of baseball, the Jr. Cats will come away from it with some great experience to propel them throgh the rest of the season.
During the game Corey N took a frightening fastball to the face that had everyone scared to death. Bleeding from both nostrols and dazed, Corey asked to be allowed to stay in and run the bases. We have some guts here Cats fans! A visit to the hospital and I'm proud to say only a mangled mouth, some swelling and bruises are the verdict with nothing broken and no concussion. All who saw it know it's a bonified miracle. Thank you Lord.

Cats A Win game 1 in Madison Tournament

Posted by Tony Camp at Mar 11, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The SJHS Jr Cats took Game 1 of the Madison Tournament with a solid 5-2 victory over a goodNew Market squad. Brandon C got the win on the mound and CJ G recorded a save with some late closing duty. A rough defensive start in the 40s degree temps got the cats in a bit of a hole early. Brandon battled without his best stuff but bared down in the clutch to get out of a jam and keep New Market down early till the offense could thaw out. Trailing 2-0 into the 3rd the Cat attack warmed up and put 4 big runs on the board with some nice hits led by Jay B, Ben G & Conner B. The cats played good defense the rest of the way and Brandon shut them down into the last inning to set up CJ for the last inning close The Cats added an insurance run in the 5th to take game 1 of a twin bill.

Cats take 2nd game in the Friday night double

Posted by Tony Camp at Mar 11, 2005 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
After a game break the Cats A team started a 10 pm affair vs Randolf in the Madison Tournament for game 2 of the night. Keeton J got the start and worked 2/3 of the way through the 4th with a great job of shutout ball before giving way to closer CJ G. A close game in the frigid conditons found both offenses slow to score. With the score knotted 0-0 in the 4th the Cats offense caught fire. Sparked by solid hits from Conner B, Jay B, Brandon C & Tyler H the cats plated 7 runs to go up big. Keeton continued to do well, but Randolf started making a bit of noise so CJ G came in to put out the fire and record the final out in the inning. In the last inning the bats went crazy again and some HARD shots rocked Randolf one after the other. Ben G, Tyler H, Brandon C, Jay B and Corey N all hit some rockets in the inning to totally put the game away while CJ put Randolf down in order to complete the 12-0 win.
