Mid-Atlantic Paddlers Association

Five MAPA members made the trek down to the Lumber River Canoe Challenge. A forty mile epic adventure on one of Americas senic waterways. The race starts in Lumberton NC and finishes in Nichols SC. The water level was 3.4' on the gage at Boardman NC. There were many obstacles in the water and numerous shallow water sections. On top of that there were flys the size of a half dollar that liked to hitch a ride on your head, arms and back. Vultures circled overhead in the mid to lower sections of the race. There were nice sandy beaches at every other corner that beckoned the paddlers to stop. Results: Kyle McLain & Chuck Conley first place overall, fastest time of the day at 5:32:00, Second Place Leza McLain & Rusty McLain with a time of 5:32:19. Also would like to thank William & Lynn McDuffie and the NC Canoe Racing Association for doing a fantastic job putting on this race and all that goes into it.
