The Red Heat, AKA the Guilds brothers, each scored a goal to lead DEA to a 2-0 victory over the Ipswich Town FC this past Sunday at Legacy. Johnnie Morin put on the gloves yet another time for DEA and did what he has done for many years, gave DEA another shutout performance in net. It was a beautiful Sunday morning for DEA's first games back at Legacy Park since the renovations. The pitch was in good shape and so were the two DEA teams that would play this day. The first matchup would be DEA's over 30 squad going up against the first place Ipswich team. DEA would triumph 3-2 in the match. Next would be the DEA Masters taking on the Ipswich Town FC in a two town double header. The game would start with both teams sharing time of possession. DEA would start to take control of the game and pin Ipswich in their end. However, DEA could not seem to find the net and the game would linger on 0-0. DEA would have their chances but were off the mark a bit. Ipswich would break through for a good chance, but John Morin would come off his line to snatch the ball from the feet of the striker. Close call for DEA. These are the kind of games that can go bad to worse. DEA had most of the possession but the score still read 0-0 at the half. The second half, DEA would be going into a slight wind. This seemed to help as it would force the ball to feet. DEA would do just that. DEA's Midfield would take over the possession, led by John Valickus and Jim McCall in the middle with Sharby, Crespo and John Guild on the take flanks. About 10 minutes in, Captain Jim McCall would find Jeff Guild open with a pass. Jeff would turn and hammer home the first DEA goal at the new Legacy park. DEA would totally shut down Ipswich now with the solid defense of Rob Easton, Dale, JD, Mark Major, and Mitch Green. They were set on giving Johnnie his shut out. With about 15 minutes to go, once again, Jim McCall would take a through pass and spint towards the goal. He would beat the defender, but his shot was deflected by the keeper across the goal mouth. Three people would swipe at it until it would fall at the feet of Johnnie Guild. John doesn't miss those gimmies and he would put DEA up 2-0. The DEA defense would shut out the rest of the game for the final. A good day for DEA Bedford Soccer at Legacy. Next week, DEA remains at home to take on Groton BC United in the start of the second half of the season. DEA is only one point behind the Irish Village in the standins at this point as the Irish only managed a tie against the Hurricane club. Whats left to do now is just keep winning. GREAT GAME DEA.

DEA Suffers First Loss to Irish Village 3-2

No matter how hard the referee tried to ruin the game with his horrible officiating, DEA and the Irish Village still had a great battle. The Irish Village would squeek out a victory in the final minutes however, 3-2 to put DEA back to 2nd place in the standings. The wind would play a big roll in this match as it was blowing from one end to the other. This combined with the quickness of the turf field and a half inflated ball made it a different game all together. The Irish would get the wind advantage in the first half and would keep DEA locked in there end for the majority of the half. They would score the first goal off a ripping shot from 25 yards out. DEA would come right back as the referee would award his first of three PK's on the day to DEA. This one was for a hand ball in the area. Captain Jim McCall would hammer home the PK and knot the score at 1 a piece. DEA would happily make it to half time tied as they would gain the important wind advantage for the second half. The second half started slow as DEA was still playing long ball on the quick turf. This was found to be ineffective and the Irish continued their short ball game which went well with the wind in their face. The referee took over now and called a PK on DEA on a contriversial call. As the Irish lined up to take the kick, Rob Easton pointed out to the ref that their players were inside the semicircle prior to the kick. The kick was taken anyway and Randy made the save but the ball rebounded out to a player that was inside the area and he hammered it in. The ref did not have the balls to call it back and awarded the goal to the Irish. DEA would come right back however. Dale Dubois would take a feed back from John Morin and hit a cross over to Scott Sharby. Sharby would volley home the equalizer for DEA. Play would get chippy as both sides tried for the win. The Irish would dive a few times and finally get the referee to call yet another PK against DEA. Randy would save yet another PK but this time their was noone cheating inside the box and the ball was cleared right into the throat of the ref. It was really hard to ask if he was ok as he certainly desearved it. DEA would battle to the final minutes of play and was happy to leave with the one point, when disaster struck. A failed clear on a ball on the right side of DEA net would be crossed into the area by the Irish. It would take an awkward bounce and Randy would not field it clean. The Irish striker would poke home the winner. Very disappointing finish for DEA. Next match will be different when they have to travel up to play in Bedford. DEA takes on Ipswich Town FC next at home at Legacy field this Sunday following the Over 30 game. Kickoff is slated for 10:30.
DEA Masters started the 2007 season out on the right foot with a 3-1 win over Pepperell. DEA is new to division 4 and wanted to let everyone know that did not intend to stay. Legacy field was still closed due to the late snow fall so DEA management secured the classy Hampshire Dome in Milford for the match. The turf field would mean a much quicker game for both sides and DEA seem to fair the better of the two. Both sides started out cautious, getting used to the fast surface. DEA clearly had the majority of the possession, but could not light the lamp and the first half remained scoreless. The second half would see a DEA surge early. Captain Jim McCall would start the scoring for DEA about 10 minutes in. McCall would take a feed from John Vallickus, from center mid, and beat the Pepperell keeper, who had been keeping them in the game until then. Shortly later, Pepperell would commit a foul outside their area to the right of their goal. Scott Sharby would take the restart and hit a beautiful strike into the far side netting to put DEA up 2-0. DEA really put on the pressure now and Jeff Guild would sprint down the right side of the field and hit a beautiful cross to the foot of Bill Jean. Billy would net his first of the year to put DEA on top 3 nil. Pepperell would spoil the shutout with a nice shot that would just get over new DEA keeper, Randy Bryan's reach. The game would end with DEA up 3-1. DEA would head to the coast to take on their rivials, the Hurricane at Gordon College next. Great win DEA.
DEA made it two wins in a row this past Sunday as they took on their rivals, the Hurricane SC at Gordon College. For the second week in a row, DEA would play on a beautiful turf field and would prove that they have the skills to contol the game on the fastest of pitches. DEA would have to play this game without their starting keeper, so the task was put to the defense. The Bedford defense, led by Mitch Green and Dale in the middle with JD, Sean Kelly and Mark Major on the flanks, would play excellent and would not allow a shot in the entire first half. Steve Sarro, who volinteered for net duties was happy about this. On the other end, however, Bedford could not put one in. Dale had a good chance on a Jim McCall corner kick but the header went wide. Johnnie Guild had a shot just miss left also in the first half that remained scoreless. DEA was definately controlling the play. The second half would see more of the same as DEA would continue to pressure, but could not net one. Like in a defenders nightmare, JD would make a long pass to Steve in the goal, but a Hurricane forward would pressure the play. A slight miscue would allow the Hurricane foward a tap in goal and DEA was suddenly down 1-0. This seamed to spark Bedford, who would really start to pressure. A foul out to the left side of the goal would allow Captain Jim McCall a restart. McCall would hit a nicely placed ball right on the foot of Stopper, Dale Dubois, who would volley home the equalizer. Shortly after, Jim McCall would get a breakaway to the right side of the goal and was hauled down by a defender for a PK. McCall would score his second of the season and put DEA up to stay. Bedford would continue to pressure despite the early departures of JD and Sharby, who both had excellent games. The Hurricanes were desperate to tie the game in the final minutes of play and would knock the ball around the DEA area. Jim McCall would recieve an outlet pass and make an 80 yard sprint to the other end of the field. The Hurricane keeper, who had an outstanding game would be drawn off his line and would make the save on McCall's shot. The ball, however, would rebound out to the left onto John Guild's foot. John would hit a long chip the would just make it over the keepers hands as he scrammbled back towards his net. DEA would post an impressive 3-1 victory to seat themselves on top of the division. GREAT WIN DEA !!! Next Sunday, DEA travels way down to West Roxbury to take on the Irish Villiage at 8 AM. We are told that this is yet another beautiful turf field located at Catholic Memorial High School. This will be a battle of the top two teams in the division. Irish Villiage got the best of DEA during the semi's last season when the Irish were in the southern division. This Sunday will see a different result.
DEA secures another "W". With the absence of our regular and back-up keeper, DEA had to reach down and look for the biggest guys to step-up into goal. We found them in Stan and Nick Masci(returning for his 1st game back this season). Both keepers played supremely in net sharing halves and allowing no goals. We have not seen such movement and light feet from our traditional forward Stan, but he was all over anything close to the net. Nick Masci on the other hand could be heard with every touch and play, calling for the ball several times to be played back to him, pressured or not he didn't care. No goals were seen in the first half, but things broke open in the second. John Guild stuck first with one of his two goals on the day. Just in from the English Premier League in England was the highly recruited center back David Poole. Dave playing both ends of the field today, sent a bending pass through the defensive end finding the feet of John out on the left wing. John stuck a low driving shot past the keeper to get DEA on the plus side. Not to be out done by "Brother", Jeff Guild scored the next one, on a similar through ball pass from Jim McCall. Coming out from his first half in goal and into the field Stan proving his worth in any spot provided the assist to John Guilds second goal. John could have had a few more, he finally settled down after receiving another through ball pass on the left and striking the ball as hard as he could, only to find the corner flag (a bit wide of the goal). The final goal of the game, which ended up more controversial than it looked, started with a mid field pass from Doug to Jim McCall, McCall drove towards the goal was knocked by the Cobras sweeper. Jim ended up with the ball while the sweeper fell to the ground. McCall struck a low near corner shot beating the keeper. After the play accusations of intended contact flew by the defender laying on the ground, this led to several Cobra's getting in Jim's face, while McCall tried to apologize for any unintentional contact only heating up the situation more. Paul Cote watching events unfold, could be heard saying, your not me Jim get out of there. Breaking News - Rumors are now heavily flying of the intended retirement of mad man keeper extraordinaire James Goddard. It has been said he will end this fall season and complete his career with our last fall game. Jim has been a rock in goal, knocks the ball a mile, and shows no fear in his position. Stay tuned for more on this.
