DEA Bedford Crushes Weston 7-1 in Season Opener

Posted by Dale Dubois on Aug 30 2005 at 05:00PM PDT
A much improved DEA Bedford Masters team opened the 2005 Fall season with a crushing victory over the team from Weston. DEA signed many of the Bedford Blast players over the summer and showed up with a full squad. The game started slow with both teams testing the waters. Bedford was trying to get a handle on all the new players, not being used to having subs for an away game. In addition, Nick Masci, a new DEA standout, got hurt and DEA lost some strong mid-field control. Weston would actually score first about midway through the first half. Bedford saw some good chances but was kept off the board untill halftime. After a strategic half time talk and some realignment of some personell, DEA came out on fire. Nick would return from his injury along with a full Bedford Blast lineup with the addition of Paul Cote at Defense. This lineup seemed to click as DEA would pound in seven unanswered goals much to the dismay of the Weston fans. Nick would begin things as he would drive to the corner, cut and make a nice pass back to Jim McCall. McCall would score the first DEA goal of the Fall, placing it into the corner. Next, Bill Jean hits a nice cross to John Guild, fresh up from the DEA over 30 team, and Johnnie would put it away. John Guild then returns the favor with a pass to George Wegricht who finishes nicely, after having several good head ball chances earlier. George then gives a through pass to Stan Wisniewski, who was finely not caught off sides. Stan beat the keeper for DEA's 4th goal. They were on a romp. Weston was in full retreat at this point, and DEA was decidedly not going to let up. Things needed to be reconciled. John Guild connected with brother Jeff who stuck a strong shot in. DEA 5-1. George hit a through ball behind the D with Jim McCall running past to one time past the goalie. DEA 6-1. Doug Wolfe would find Jeff Guild with a nice pass. Jeff would hit a screamer that strikes just under the cross bar to completely deflate the Weston team. Jeff's second of the day. Jim Kellogg played a great game in goal, having been prepped by the team manager (Dale - prior to coming) for that position. Net result DEA = 7 Weston = 1 A Great start for DEA. Next week DEA is off for Labor day and then its back home to take on the Lexington Eagles on 9/11 at 10:30 AM at Sportsmans Field... Great Win DEA.
