DEA Bedford Masters Open With a Win Over Northshore United

Posted by Dale Dubois on Sep 06 2004 at 05:00PM PDT
In keeping with the DEA Soccer winning tradition, the newly formed DEA Bedford Masters opened the 2004 fall season with a 3-2 win over the Northshore United SC. The league requested that the game, originally scheduled for Legacy Park in Bedford, be switched to Merrimac, MA so that the teams could take part in the Field dedication to long time NEOTHSL member, Reggie Beaumont. So DEA would open up on the road. Starting the game in the 95 degree heat with only 11 players, most of which had never met before, DEA took charge of the match. DEA Masters had three of the Bedford Blast boys, Jim McCall, Rick Plicta and Mitch Green, to provide much of the strength in the winning effort. This trio paired with the skilled play of David Crespo, George Wegricht, Joe Mitchell and Pat Walsh was just to much for the Merrimac squad. DEA would get on the board first as Stan Wisniewski would find Jim McCall open outside the 18. Stan Wisniewski and George W. would get the credit for a Northshore own goal for DEA's second goal. Northshore would make a game of it getting a goal back triing to wear out the DEA squad with their deep bench in the 95 degree heat. David Crespo would get the eventual game winner on a feed from Gabrial Dias. Dale Dubois would show up in the second half after his game in Marblehead to give a much needed sub to the DEA Masters. DEA would hold on to win the match 3-2. GREAT start with short numbers. With the Labor day break, DEA's management has been busy prior to the trade deadline and roster freeze. We have aquired an additional keeper and a few more quality players to give the team some depth. DEA Masters are on the road again this Sunday as they take on the Lynnfield Raiders at Lynnfield High School. Game time is 8:30 AM.
