SAT MARCH 19TH 2016

With six games remaining this match took on a must win feel to it probably because it was a must win match for a Roselea side in last chance saloon. With 4-5 wins possibly required to achieve Premier League survival a win against the second bottom side was crucial.

Roselea were boosted by the return of Paul Whyte from suspension and Aaron Thomson from illness. James Collier who missed out at Dalkeith due to injury was now also suspended for two games so sat out again.

Broomfield was nice and calm and the teams took to a dry but flat surface.

Roselea: Mcleod, Dalgarno, Taylor, Reoch, Sturrock, Mitchell, Rae, Anderson, Cruickshank, S Watson & C Watson. Subs: Whyte, Milne, Mowatt, Greig & Duff

Roselea won a free kick in 5 mins and Rae swung in a great free kick but there were no takers as the ball raced across the face of the Oakley goal.

Oakley then sent in a corner which S Watson did well to block a header which was goal bound.

Watson then had a chance at the other end in 16 minutes when he turned a Mitchell corner goal bound but Adamson pulled of a reaction save.

On the half hour mark there was a chance for both sides. Allan was put through for Oakley but Mcleod blocked with his feet then Sturrock broke away but could not find support in the middle

In 43 mins with an Oakley player down injured Cruickshank sent Mitchell away on the right with his pace taking him away but his angle was tight and pulled his shot wide.

In 47 minutes Scott Watson thought he had given Roselea the lead when he hit a great left footed shot which hit the corner of the bar before bouncing down and to safety.

It turned worse for Roselea in 50 minutes when they fell a goal behind. Sturrock was caught under the ball and when McLeod parried the first shot out FLEMING followed up to score from close range

In 65minutes Roselea made a change with Whyte coming on for Mitchell

Reoch was denied the equaliser after his header was turned over the bar by Adamson

Mowatt replaced Cruickshank in 78 minutes with Roselea pushing on for the equaliser.

Calum Rae received a second yellow in the 80th minute he was unlucky as Carruthers lunged into the tackle and if anything he was the guilty party.

Whyte went close with a header from a Taylor cross in 82 minutes but the ten men of Roselea could not press Oakley and they held out for a good win.

Full Time: Montrose Roselea 0 Oakley Utd 0

This was a devastating blow to Roselea’s survival chances and they will now need to win at least four if not all of their last five games. It was a poor match to watch on a very dry surface and a draw would have been a fair result although not much good to Roselea in their current position.

Match Sponsors were Rab Hampton & Dennis Robertson

Roselea have a free week on Saturday March 26th before heading to their last trip over the Forth Bridge to Creamery Park home of Bathgate Thistle. The Roselea bus will leave the Golf Inn at 11.00am
