Battle of Heavyweights goes to Douglas

The Flanagan Falcons suffered their 1st loss of the season and the 1st loss in 21 games after a 2-1 battle against Parkland-Douglas. D.J. Swatscheno(3-1) and Douglas' Brandon Holden locked up in a great duel between 2 of the States top pitchers. Swatscheno pitched a complete game allowing 2 runs on just 3 hits while striking out 6 on the day while Holden pitched a complete game 5 hitter, allowing 1 run and striking out 6.  3 PITCHES seperated the 2 pitchers the entire game. Douglas centerfielder Joey Hage drilled a double down the leftfield line driving in SS Daniel Kern for the 1st run of the game in the 3rd inning giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Falcons responded in the top of the 5th inning when DH Ishi DeMoya blasted his 1st home run of the season to right centerfield tying the game at 1-1. Douglas regained the lead in the bottom of the 5th inning when catcher Sean Ochinko hit a double to left centerfield driving in the eventual winning run. The Falcons battled to the end as Swatscheno singled in the top of the 7th inning and after a walk  to Eric McCans and a wild pitch put the tying and go ahead runners on 2nd and 3rd base, Holden was able to strike out Rolando Gomez to end the game. 

JV EARNS A COME BACK WIN OVER DOUGLAS
The Falcons JV (8-1-1) came away with a 4-3 win over Douglas earlier in the day. Rudy Miret pitched 6 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits to pick up the win and David Thomas earned the save by getting a line drive double play that was snagged by 1B Diego Delgado ending the game. Zach Jackson scored 2 runs including the game winner in the top of 7th inning. The Falcons came back from a 3-0 deficit for their 8th win of the season. Mike Fernandez singled in the 5th inning driving in Jackson and Diego Delgado cutting the Eagles lead to 3-2. Rudy Miret (2 for 3)singled in the 6th inning plating Matt Caesar tying the score at 3-3 before the Falcons won the game in the 7th inning.

FLANAGAN Ranked #8 by Baseball America

DURHAM, N.C.—Russell County High (Seale, Ala.) ended 2005 as the nation's No. 1 team in the Baseball America/National High School Baseball Coaches Association Top 50 and begins 2006 in the same spot. The Warriors went 38-1 last year, claiming Alabama's Class 5-A championship, and are again well stocked with pitching depth and a talented lineup. Monsignor Pace High (Opa Locka, Fla.) begins the year ranked No. 2 and the top team in the state of Florida. No. 3 El Camino Real High (Woodland Hills, Calif.) and No. 4 Agoura (Calif.) High open the season as the top two teams in the nation's deepest state for high school baseball in 2006. Ten California schools are featured in the preseason poll. The staff of Baseball America, the National High School Baseball Coaches Association and a national ranking committee of coaches from across the country determine the Top 50 rankings. In-season polls are conducted every other week, with the final poll released June 12. Records indicated are team's 2005 final records and do not include ties.
