Falcons Squeak by Patriots

Posted by Ray Evans at Mar 3, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Falcons relied on Eric Morera's arm to get by the Miramar Patriots Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory to stay undefeated in the District.

Morera (2-1) pitched 6 innings giving up only 3 hits while striking out 10 and walking 2. The only blemish would come in the 1st inning with one out when the second hitter of the game for the Patriots took a curve ball and deposited it over the center field wall. Morera settled in and did not allow another hitter to reach base until the 4th inning. Arrison Perez came in to close the game out in the 7th. With runners on 1st and 2nd he struck out the final batter of the night to secure the win for Morera and get his 1st save of the season.

The Falcons offense didn't get going until the 3rd inning when with 1 out Miguel Presno doubled to the right center field wall. With 2 outs and Presno still at 2nd, Eric Rivera came up and hit a long homerun to centerfield to make the score 2-1. That score would stay the same until the bottom of the 6th inning. Ricky Presno led off the inning with a single. Rivera followed that up with a walk and when Peter Moforis reached on an error, the Falcons had the bases loaded with no outs. The Patriot defense helped the Falcons out as another error and a wild pitch helped to score 2 more runs. Arrison Perez then came up with 1 out and a runner on 3rd. Perez hit a sac fly to left center field to score pinch runner Tyler Evans for the 5th and final run of the night for the Falcons.

The Falcons (6-2, 3-0) will travel to West Broward for a district game on Friday, March 6th at 3:45.

Posted by Ray Evans at Feb 26, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The Flanagan offense took care of business with a 12-2 decisive victory against Hialeah Gardens.

Eric Rivera and Peter Moforis started things off with back to back homeruns in the bottom of the 1st inning to make it 2-0.  After the 2nd out was made Arrison Perez singled and was balked to second base. Mark Vientos then drove in Perez with a single for an RBI to make the score 3-0 after one inning of play.

In the bottom of the 2nd there was more of the same. Andy Epstein led the inning off with a single, stole second base and moved to 3rd on a fielders choice. After a walk was issued to Ricky Presno to put runners on 1st and 3rd, Eric Rivera came up and doubled to the gap to drive in a run and put the score at 4-0. Then just like the 1st inning, Peter Moforis followed Rivera up with a single of his own to drive in 2 more runs to bring the score to 6-0.

In the 3rd inning the Gladiators got on the board with 2 runs of their own to make the score 6-2.

In the 4th inning with 1 out, Ricky Presno doubled and moved to 3rd on a wild pitch. Once again Rivera stepped up to get his 3rd hit and 3rd RBI of the evening to make the score 7-2.

In the bottom of the 5th inning the Falcons would score 5 more runs to end the game early.  Perez led off with a walk and Vientos would follow that up with a double to right center for his 2nd hit and 2nd RBI of the game.  After a strikout and another walk, Miguel Presno would get his 1st hit and 1st RBI on the night to make the score 9-2. Ricky then came up with his 2nd hit and 1st RBI of the evening to make it 10-2. The night ended just the way it started, with Rivera driving in runs. Rivera collected his 4th hit of the evening to drive in the final two runs of the night to end the game 12-2.

Eric Morera (1-0) pitched the first 2 innings giving up no runs, 1 hit, while striking out 2 and walking 2. Jeremy Cook (1-0) came into the game to pitch the final 3 innings and pick up his first win of the season. He gave up 2 earned runs on 2 hits and 1 HBP, while walking 2 and striking out 2.

Fortuno Shuts Out Broncos

Posted by Ray Evans at Feb 20, 2015 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Gentry Fortuno (1-1) threw a gem Friday night as he struck out 13 while only giving up 2 hits in a 4-0 victory. The Broncos from Palm Beach Central never got a runner on base until the 1st hit came in the 5th inning. The Broncos would get one more hit in the 7th before Fortuno got the last hitter to ground out to shortstop to end the game.

As for the offense, Eric Rivera went 2-3 as did freshman Roberto Pena in his first varsity start. Pena drove in the first run of the game to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead. That run stood as the only run of the game until Andy Epstein came up with the big blow in the bottom of the 6th inning to put the game out of reach. With the bases loaded Epstein hit the first pitch he saw into the left centerfield gap to clear the bases and give the Falcons a 4-0 lead going into the final inning. Epstein was 1-3 with 3 RBI's and Arrison Perez went 1-2 with a double, a SB and scored 2 runs on the evening.

The Falcons (3-2, 1-0) will take on Hialeah Gardens at Falcon Field on Wednesday, Feb. 25th at 6:30 pm.
