Falcons Squeak by Patriots

Posted by Ray Evans on Mar 03 2015 at 04:00PM PST

The Falcons relied on Eric Morera's arm to get by the Miramar Patriots Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory to stay undefeated in the District.

Morera (2-1) pitched 6 innings giving up only 3 hits while striking out 10 and walking 2. The only blemish would come in the 1st inning with one out when the second hitter of the game for the Patriots took a curve ball and deposited it over the center field wall. Morera settled in and did not allow another hitter to reach base until the 4th inning. Arrison Perez came in to close the game out in the 7th. With runners on 1st and 2nd he struck out the final batter of the night to secure the win for Morera and get his 1st save of the season.

The Falcons offense didn't get going until the 3rd inning when with 1 out Miguel Presno doubled to the right center field wall. With 2 outs and Presno still at 2nd, Eric Rivera came up and hit a long homerun to centerfield to make the score 2-1. That score would stay the same until the bottom of the 6th inning. Ricky Presno led off the inning with a single. Rivera followed that up with a walk and when Peter Moforis reached on an error, the Falcons had the bases loaded with no outs. The Patriot defense helped the Falcons out as another error and a wild pitch helped to score 2 more runs. Arrison Perez then came up with 1 out and a runner on 3rd. Perez hit a sac fly to left center field to score pinch runner Tyler Evans for the 5th and final run of the night for the Falcons.

The Falcons (6-2, 3-0) will travel to West Broward for a district game on Friday, March 6th at 3:45.
