Last Year's (2016) Cheer Director's  Message

Hello Cheer Families!

REGISTRATION
If you have yet to register, please do so a soon as possible.  Early registration allows us to plan accordingly to ensure we have adequate volunteer staff, uniforms and an idea of what our squads will look like.  Please see attached flyer with registration details. Please note it is $25 cheaper if you register prior to July 15th, please don't wait.  Please share with friends and family who may be interested in participating as well.

CHEER UNIFORM AND SHOE FITTING
Cheer uniform & shoe fitting will be done on Thursday June 16th from 5:30PM - 8:00PM at the Glenwood Community Center.  We will have a SECOND fitting on Monday July 11th from 6:00PM - 8:00PM for those who are unable to make the June fitting.  If your schedule permits, please plan to have your daughter fitted at the first fitting on June 16th.

CHEER SUMMER CAMPS
We are pleased this year to offer something new.  Over the past few months, I have a few inquiries regarding cheer summer camps.  I did share flyers of the wonderful camps offered by the Glenelg High School (GHS) and River Hill High School (RHHS) Booster clubs.  In addition the MMYFCL will be offering a one day camp on Sunday July 31st from 9:00AM - 3:00PM at the Glenwood Community Center at $20/cheerleader.  Please email me at pobull74@gmail.com for additional cheer camp information.

2016 SEASON
Our start date for our 2016 cheer season is Monday August 8th.  We will have 3 weeks of practices to include a week of cheer competition choreography camp where we will introduce and start working on our cheer competition routines.  During this time (August) practices will typically run Monday through Thursday 6-8PM with an occasional Friday practice from 6-7:30PM.  Starting the week of August 29th, when school starts, practices will drop down to no more than 6 hours/wk, typically Mon/Wed or Tue/Thu 6-8PM.  We will be outside at Western Regional Park (WRP) from start until around September 16th after which we will move indoors to either the Glenwood Community Center (GCC) gym or neighboring schools.  We will cheer for football games every Friday evening OR Saturday, depending on when the games are played, starting with the first game on Saturday September 3rd.  We will have 2 competitions the first 2 weekends in November, and we will continue to cheer for football games in November during playoff as long as we have football teams still playing.  As we get closer to competition (usually 2 weeks prior), practices will increase to 3-4 days a weeks. More specific details regarding practices, games, and competition will be sent out throughout the summer and early August/September.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Our program, just like many sport programs, is completely volunteer-based!  Directors, Coaches, team administrators, coordinators, and board members are all parent volunteers. There wouldn't be a program without the support of our parents, older siblings, and other family and community members.  Please consider volunteering your time to help support the girls.  We need coaches and team administrators.  No prior cheer experience is required or needed.  Just a positive, energetic attitude and a willingness to help. We have many resources to help you with coaching and running a team and I will ensure that you have all the support you need to help you be successful.  Please email at pobull74@gmail.com if you would like to help.

Thank you,
