Interested in Coaching (Cheer or Football) or being a Team Admin for the 2015 Season?

In an effort to provide a safe and positive experience to participants, all volunteer coaches and team admins must now be active members of the Howard County Coach’s Registry. Some of you may already be members; if that is the case, please see below about completing your Volunteer Application for upcoming season.

In order to become a member of Howard County’s Coaches Registry, a coach must complete the following minimum county requirements. The Warhawks' program prides itself on the superior quality of our coaching staff and Team Admins; we accomplished this through certifications, mentorships for new coaches, and workshops above the minimum requirements.

Please read this in its entirety and email any questions to whcwarhawks@gmail.com.

For a New Coach or Team Admin

1) Submit a Volunteer Application online.

2) You will receive an email from our Background Check Contractor, HIRERIGHT, that tells you to complete your background check and gives instructions on how to do so.

3) Take the online Concussion in Sports course.  You will need to email the PDF Certificate with your name on it indicating that you've passed the course to coaches@howardcountymd.gov.

4) Take, Complete, and Pass the ASEP Coaching Essentials course which is provided by the county. Not required for Team Admins (we will list the dates and times of the upcoming courses)

5) Take the USAFOOTBALL Level I Tackle Certification Course found at www.usafootball.com.

6) You need to email a scanned copy or picture of your Photo ID

7)  You need to submit a "headshot" photo for your badge.  (It must be good quality and your face must be legible...NO SUNGLASSES)

For a Returning Coach or Team Admin:

1) Submit a Returning Coach Volunteer Application online.

2) Re-certification for volunteers requires an updated background check which must be done on an annual basis.  After submitting your Volunteer Application, you will receive an email from our Background Check Contractor, HIRERIGHT, that gives you instructions on how to complete your background check.

3)  Take the USAFOOTBALL Level I Tackle Re-Certification Course found at www.usafootball.com.

DEADLINE FOR COMPLETION IS 15 JULY 2015, so start now if you THINK you want to volunteer!!!

Once you have completed all of the requirements for the registry, you are issued a Coaches Card, which you are required to wear when actively coaching in our youth sports programs.  You must register for "Coaching Youth Sports" by calling 410-313-7275. Tell the registration assistant that you are taking the course to become a volunteer coach for the Warhawks Football & Cheer 2015 Season and you will not be charged. This course can also be taken online; contact Beth Snyder if you prefer this method.

To learn more about coaching in our youth sports programs and to get started in the Registry process, you can contact any of our youth sports program coordinators or please feel free to contact the following person if you have any questions, suggestions or concerns. Beth Snyder Registry Administrator Howard County Recreation and Parks 410-313-4630 or send an email to coaches@howardcountymd.gov.

Please Note:  Submitting to be a volunteer Coach or Team Admin does not guarantee your spot.  Our program survives on volunteer Coaches and Team Admins, but we have a maximum number of volunteers allowed on the field per league rules.  There are many other opportunities to volunteer in our organization that do not require the registration process.
