Westford Over-30 Slow-Pitch Softball

On another beautiful night for softball, the opening games of both second round play off series went to the visiting teams. In the first game, Healy Oil overcame a first inning 2-run HR by OF Jerry Cressman of Z's Sports Shop to win 5-2. The big blow came in the fourth inning when Healy's LF Bill McLaughlin cleared the bases with a Grand Slam that bounced off the light tower. The second game came down to the seventh inning tied at 5. The Mustangs loaded the bases with 2 outs and managed to push home a run to defeat Drew Farms 6-5. Both series continue on Tuesday night, first game starting at 6:30, with the Mustangs hosting Drews followed by Z's at Healy.

The second night of the 2006 Play Offs was a perfect night for a ball game. And for the higher seeds, as both completed two games series sweeps to advance to the Second Round of the playoffs. In the first game of the night, Healy Oil advanced with a 5 inning 14-1 victory over Short Cut. In the second game, Mustangs jumped out to a 7-0 lead over Mario's Restaurant after the first inning and coasted to a 15-4 win. With both the Mustangs and Healy Oil sweeping their first round playoff series, the second round match ups have been set. And they look very familiar. Regular season champion Z's Sports Shop will meet defending champion Healy Oil in a rematch of one of last year's second round series. Healy Oil swept Z's last year on their way to an undefeated romp through all three rounds of the play offs. In the second series, Drew Farms comes off the bye they earned as the second place team to once again face the Mustangs. This time around it is Drews that is the higher seed. Drew Farms won two games on the oft-rescheduled final night of the regular season to claim the second bye and setting the first round play off match ups. Short Cut defeated Mario's Restaurant in the first game of the night to keep their fourth place hopes alive. However, Drew's victory in the continuation of their suspended game from June 21 locked Short Cut into the fifth seed against fourth seeded Healy Oil. Drew then went on to beat regular season champion Z's Sports Shop to clinch the second seed and the other first round bye.
