Dyce Juniors 2 v 1 SAINTS

Posted by Gordon Humble at Aug 27, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

In this our second league game of the season, we were once again severely hampered with quite a number of absentees. Injuries to Murray Buchan, Andrew Shepherd and Sam Smith, with suspended duo Steve Travers and Kieran Davidson were compounded by the unavailability of Cameron Buchan, Jamie Buglass, Riain Findlay, Chris Huggins, Grant Munro, Ryan Whelan and Callum Wilson. This left only 13 players available so two trialists were drafted in to bolster the days squad.

Under the circumstances the lads played pretty well against a Dyce team that are one of the favoured teams to challenge Banks O'Dee for the title.

Dyce took the lead on 13 minutes but Saints quickly equalised three minutes later when former Banchory player Magnus Barclay put through his own net. Ten minutes from half time Dyce scored their second and dominated until the interval. Despite having the better of the second half, Saints could not find the net to get what would have been a deserved draw.

Full report to follow.

Last year we had a 1st Round tie for the first time since 2009 and we drew local team East End. This year we are in the 1st Round draw again but have much further to travel this time.

North Ayrshire team KILBIRNIE LADESIDE are our opponents with the tie being played on Saturday 24th September at their Valefield Park ground.

Kilbirnie play in the West Superleague Premier Division, so this will be a very difficult tie, but one I'm sure our young squad will relish and be ready for.

More details on Kilbirnie to follow, but you can view there website by clicking on this news item.

We have introduced a new sponsorship scheme which promotes player sponsorship by local businesses and private individuals. This has been greatly supported so far but we still have a few players actively seeking sponsorship.

If you are that person or know of someone that would be willing to come on-board, please contact club secretary Wendy Sadler (07817653741) or Neil Findlay (07974765934) for more details.

There will be a new News Item cretaed in the Website to update you on the progress of who has sponsored who.

A Bit Late - Update at 8th August

Posted by Gordon Humble at Aug 25, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hi everyone, well season 2016/17 has finally started. The pre-season has come and gone and seen a change somewhat in the squad of players at the club.

Where some players have left the club for pastures new we strengthen too. This being across the squad which you will see on the website.

The Managing team are pleased with the players joining us and look forward in working with them over the coming months and to progress forward from last season.

Again our main target is to always retain playing in the Super League and do well in the local Cup competitions. The league has been strengthened with local side Colony Park from Inverurie, and from the North league Buckie Rovers FC. Both sides are known for playing good football and by all accounts having young squads like ourselves.

The pre-season challenge matches we had saw us having 2 games against Highland league opposition (Huntly (3-3) and Rothes (0-1) respectively) followed by a hard physical game versus East End Juniors (3-2). Finally we had our final game against local Amateur side Alford FC (6-0). The results of these were promising only losing to Rothes , drawing with Huntly and winning the final two games.

During this we have tinkered with formations and personnel which has seen some interesting performances and will do us good in the coming weeks and months ahead.

The squad number has increased this season. This we feel will set us up better for the coming season playing in the Super League plus hoping some cup runs to go alongside this. Not only have we increased on the playing front, but also on the Managing/coaching side.

Kevin Fraser has joined us and with his wealth of knowledge in the game too, will be an asset to the team. Kevin brings our staff  up to 4 which are all local to the Banchory area and hope for this to be mirrored over the season in support for the players and club.

Anyway, I will update you more on the games in due course but look forward in seeing you at Milton in the coming weeks and months.

Mon the Saints!

Cheers

Neil

SAINTS 0 v 1 Banks O'Dee

Posted by Gordon Humble at Aug 19, 2016 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Champions Banks O'Dee came calling to Milton Park in what was Saints first McBookie.com Superleague game of the season. The visitors had Jack Henderson in their line up after Saints agreed a fee with the Aberdeen side for Jack's transfer back in July.

Due to the absence of the usual match reporter, this will be a short resume of the game.

Dee scored in the first half when a cross was blocked went back out unchallenged for Jack Henderson to score with a header from the second cross. Saints did amke some openings but found it difficult to create much with the formation being played.

The second half was much the same with Dee pressing for a second. Nico Berton in Saints goal had a couple of vital saves. Into injury time and the refreee decided to flash a red card at Kieran Davidson for a challenge that was no worse than what had gone before for some of the Hermes players, and pretty needless action from the referee with only a couple of minutes to go.

Team:  Nico Berton, Callum Wilson, Andrew Shepherd, Jack Mitchell, Josh Robertson, Darren Pyper, Grant Munro, Kierna Davidson, Greig Mackie, Mike Bruce, Craig Simpson.  Subs Used:  Craig Peter, Sean Findlay
