Experience & Youth

Hi all well it looks like we are back up and running on the playing side again. Played 2 games in the last 3 weeks which has seen us pick up 3 very welcoming points at Maud and Saturday just past – progress into the last 8 of the GA Cup. The games themselves will be under the game reports, but from the mangers dugout the performances highlighted two differing contrasts which the players seem to be coming to grasps with.

Maud saw us play fluent, fast attacking football. As where the Lochee Harp game saw the boys having to dig in, stay disciplined but fight for everything. Something that in seasons gone by we would have lost the fixtures. Steel seems to have been installed into the squad – this evident from the older and experienced players passing on this grit and determination. However, with this there is usually a price to pay and to this end we are again seeing injuries to players after each game. Young Mark Gilmore out with a twisted ankle (3 weeks) and recently returned to the club Conran Wilson; where he took a nasty stamp on his foot – metatarsal bruising seems to be his issue, which is always a difficult one to assess but likely to see him out for a couple of weeks. However, we do have players returning and things are looking promising for coming month.

On a side note, since the turn of the year we have seen some of the younger players from the local Boys Club come along to our training sessions. This has been a good exercise for all concerned and where we hope to continue at least up till the midweek games start in early April. Having worked for a number of years in the Youth Development area I know that there are a number of talented players emerging from Banchory BFC and the surrounding region and all being well, we can enhance this raw talent and hopefully will see them progress up into the Junior ranks in the next few seasons. This is no more evident than with the current squad of players were the average age of the team last week was 20 years old.

Anyway the next few weeks we see us face top opposition.

This coming Saturday we are entertaining Dufftown FC in the league. We then travel to Dyce but unsure where due to their facility been devastated in the recent flooding.

On the 12th we then welcome Banks O Dee to The Milton in the McLeman Cup, followed by the quarter final of the GA cup which should be on the 19th.

I hope that you will see yourself come along to support the boys and see the team where your support is very much welcomed.

Mon the Saints!
