V2 Help

From Andrew Gerlach's news letter and SkiPost.com Hi Subaru Factory Team: I have a question for you and/or ski post. I'm a fairly experienced skier who is looking to improve my V2 technique. When I'm skiing along doing open-field (V2 alternate), I'm poling on a gliding ski, fairly early in the glide phase, than kicking off to the gliding side; as the terrain starts to pitch upward I switch to V2. I've noticed that as the hill gets steeper and the glide gets shorter, my poling gets later and later in the glide phase. My poling and kicking off are getting closer together to the point where they are virtually simultaneous. Is this the way it should be? Michael, Hi Michael, V2 and V2-Alternate both should be initiated with simultaneous push with the poles and leg. No matter what the terrain, if you are poling before you push off with your leg, your timing is off and you are probably doing a "late kick", similar to the same term in Classical skiing. You want to initiate the push simultaneously in order to gain maximum advantage from your legs. If you push with the poles, you will begin transferring your weight across before you apply power to the leg. With the late kick, your leg power phase is shortened and it pushes your timing off. If you kick and pole at the same time, you will push all the way across the stroke. Hope that makes sense and clears it up for you. Play around with it and try to push off simultaneously with your arms and leg before you begin falling across to the glide ski. If you initiate the push together and "on-top" of your ski, you will have a huge power stroke and should be more efficient.
