June & July 2007 Meeting Minutes

Note: The June & July 2007 meetings were policy & procedural working sessions for the Executive Committee. No meeting minutes were prepared. Any items forthcoming from the working sessions will be placed on the agenda of the August 2007 and September 2007 regular monthly meetings for approval as outlined within the existing bylaws.

Annual STPAA Awards

The Lindsay Leigh Bender Memorial Track and Field Leadership Award: The award is presented annually to the 8th grade student athlete at St. Theresa School who best exemplifies the personal qualities of initiative, leadership, and enthusiasm for the sport of Track and Field. Lindsay Leigh Bender was an outstanding student athlete at St. Theresa School, and in 1995, she set the school record in the 50 meter dash. The St. Theresa Parish Athletic Association established this award in 2007 to honor Lindsay's Memory. The award consists of a plague and a $50.00 savings bond provided by the Athletic Association. The recipient of the award is selected by the Track Commissioner and Track Head Coach. The Dan Sims Memorial Award: The Dan Sims Memorial Award was created by the St. Theresa Parish Athletic Association in 2006. The award is presented to one female, and one male student from St. Theresa School who best displayed Dan's character of graciousness, kindness, generosity and respect for others. The recipients are selected by the STS faculty. The award consists of a plaque and a $100.00 savings bond provided by the Athletic Association. The names of each year's recipients are added to the wall plaque at St. Theresa School. Scholar-Athlete Awards: The Scholar-Athlete Awards are presented annually by the STPAA to six deserving student-athletes, 3 girls, and 3 boys in the St. Theresa School graduating class. Coaches in the Soccer, Varsity Basketball, Intermediate Basketball, Cheerleading, and Track & Field programs nominate up to three candidates from their squads. The STS faculty then selects the six recipients from these nominees. The yound women and young men selected display the ideals of the Catholic student-athlete: smart, skilled, a solid citizen, and loyal teammate. The award includes a $50.00 savings bond provided by the Athletic Association.
