Team Parties

Holding a team party traditionally comes under the role of Team Mom/Dad. There are no rules on how to conduct a team party, but there are several guidelines that you may want to follow:

  • The party can be held at a city park, a parents house, or a restaurant that offers team party specials.
  • When using a restaurant (i.e. pizza parlor) ask about team party specials. This is also true for order take out.
  • Be respectful of a parents ability to contribute for a team party or coaches gift. You can ask for a contribution to the party, but you can not demand a contribution. Don't make judgments about peoples ability to pay. You never know if a family has the burden of caring for an elderly family member, or if there are special medical conditions.
  • It is usually appropriate to purchase a coaches gift. This should be presented at the team party. Remember be respectful of a family's ability to pay.
  • Trophies are provided for all teams in T-Ball, California and American Leagues. For all other leagues, trophies are only provided for the winner and runner up. It is OK to purchase medals or trophies if no trophy is provided by the league. Keep in mind that as the players get older the appreciation of a participation only trophy diminishes. The leagues preferred supplier of trophies is Paradise Awards (322-3181)
  • Conducting a team party usually follows a common script.
    1. Coach says a few words and introduces each player. He/she has some kind words about each players contribution.
    2. Team Mom/Dad presents a gift to the coach.
    3. Coach may present a gift to the team Mom/Dad.
    4. Party down Garth.

TBD

GENERAL SNACK STAND OPENING AND CLOSING INFORMATION

Prior to your scheduled work period, a stand rep will brief you the in detail about all procedures for your team workers to run the snack stand after YOU have opened it.

You will be responsible for relaying these procedures to the stand workers each day during the opening of the stand. The stand rep will also inform you as to the closing of the stand. Should you be working at either Premier or American Martyrs, there will be two team moms/dads to share this load. Decide between you, who will do what.

Each stand has their own procedures regarding "OPENING" and "CLOSING", so listed here are the 'general procedures:

  1. Arrive at least 45 minutes before game time with the keys and cash bag if applicable to your stand. On your 1st day of opening YOU MUSTbring a copy of your teams schedule to be posted in the stand. Parents should arrive 30 minutes prior to the game. - This is their assigned shift.

  2. PLUG IN and start all appliances (crock pot, coffee and hot water pots, hot dog and pop corn machine, etc). Know where the breaker box is in case the breaker is blown.

  3. Be sure that all parents sign in when they arrive. If they are subs for another parent, indicate that on the schedule.PAID SUBS ARE NOT HIRED HELP, PLEASE TREAT THEM WITH RESPECT! If a worker does not show, call them. If you need to use a pay phone, use change from the cash drawer. If only one worker shows and you can get no volunteers from the stands, then only open the candy and drinks window. If no workers show and you can't get any help, call your stand rep. or ?? for further instructions. In either of the cases listed above, you as the team mom/dad are not expected to work the shift.

  4. Review with the workers all of the stand rules and procedures, making sure they are comfortable running the stand without you. Please be sure to tell workers that when their relief arrives, they need to take a few minutes to explain what they were doing.

  5. Please do not leave the stand with the next person not knowing what to do! Remind them especially about washing their hands and NO CHILDREN are permitted in the stand (for insurance and safety reasons). Parents are responsible for their own Shift. NO ONE IS PERMITTED TO WORK OR BE IN THE STAND IF THEY ARE UNDER AGE 14. ANYONE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 14 AND 18 MUST BE PRE-APPROVED BY STAND REP. OR ?? NO EXCEPTIONS! No smoking, no checks accepted (or running tab), no FREE food with the following exceptions:

    • One free drink to MANAGERS, UMP'S & SCOREKEEPERS,

    • One free treat to each player after the game,

    • One free hot-dog (and drink) to PAID UMPIRES IN UNIFORM.

  6. Return to the stand at the end of the game. (about 11?2 hours after the start of the game). Review your stands closing procedures, Count the money and fill out the Deposit Sheet in the Stand Procedures Book.DO NOT INCLUDE THE START UP CASH AND LOOSE CHANGE IN THE DEPOSIT.

  7. ake sure all workers clean everything as described in the stand's closing procedures list. It is their responsibility, but if you help, things will go much faster. UNPLUG SMALL APPLIANCES EXCEPT PEPSI MACHINE, REFRIGERATOR AND ICE MACHINES. BE SURE SCOREBOARD AND LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF IN SCOREKEEPER'S BOOTH. After closing procedures are completed - always be sure there is one worker to walk you out with the money. NEVER STAY ALONE!

  8. Lock stand and deliver deposit money to your stand rep as described on your closing procedures.KEEP THE KEY FOR THE NEXT DAY.

  9. Call the stand rep if there are any supply or COIN SHORTAGES for the next day. Her name and phone number are posted at the stand.
  10. At the end of the last day assigned to your team, deliver the deposit to your Stand Rep as usual, but also return the stand key, and the audited stand copy of your schedule to the stand rep.

Banners

Posted by Dennis Kane at Jan 17, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

In 1998, we discontinued the use of team banners for the parade and pictures. A "Manhattan Little League" Banner will be available for the backdrop of your pictures. T-Ball teams have the option to make and keep their own banner and keep it. No reimbursement will be made from the league.
