Penalties cost LHS Varsity Icemen

They say you can't win hockey games when you're in the penalty box. This was very evident in the Littleton Tigers (2-2-0) Varsity hockey game Saturday, 12/28, against league leading Nortbridge (5-0-0) at the NorthStar Youth Forum. Northbridge made good on 5 of 6 powerplays to pave their way to a 7-5 victory against the Tigers. Although LHS struck first on a goal by Chris Austermann, the strong skating Northbridge team kept pressuring goalie Terrance Sullivan throughout, forcing him to make one strong save after another. With the score 2-1 Northbridge going into the second period, penalties began to cost the Tigers as Northbridge scored 3 late period goals to pull ahead 5-2. Littleton came out in the third period fired up and got a quick goal by Jason Schneider, but penalties again cost the Tigers as Northbridge again capitalized with two more goals. Late in the game, with the score 7-3 Northbridge, all seemed lost. But a late game flurry, led by Patrick Feehan's strong play and two goals, the Tigers finished off strong. Despite the late game heroics, they could not overcome the lead the Northridge had built and the score ended 7-5. Coach Schneider when asked about his teams play, "The penalties hurt, but we didn't give up and played strong to the very end". Scorers for Littleton included, Chris Austermann (1 goal/1 assist), Mike Kanniard (1 goal), Jason Schneider (1 goal/2 ssists), and Patrick Feehan (2 goals/1 assist). A.J. Aponas and Matt Coole each had 2 assists. Goalie Terrence Sullivan made 20 saves. The LHS Varsity team play away at Worcester on 12/30, and return home on Saturday, January 4th, for a game against Lunenburg at the Groton School Rink, 6pm start time. \Rich Takvorian
