27 May '09.  The Internationals have been accepted into this highly competitive event for the 2nd straight year.  In 2006, it also participated as a U14 squad.   Players/staff are looking forward to another successful experience after finishing strong last year as a Semi-Finalist, and expecting many college coaches from top colleges to be be in attendance scouting our rising seniors/players.

24 May ’09.  On an early, sunny morning, Pachuca played its 3rd preliminary match against the surging SYA Copperheads, VA Finalist 2009, and unbeaten in 8 of their last 10 matches.  In the 1sthalf, the Copperheads kicked off and Inter’s stingy defense held the SYA team to just 1 shot on goal and 2 corner kicks which were all unsuccessful.  SYA played hard but committed just 1 foul while Pachuca committed 7 fouls (including 2 offsides and a YC shown to Mati for a hard foul).   Inter would strike quickly in the 1st minute when Schillo collected a   the right corner, worked his way over to around 22 yds. left and fired a hard shot into the net to put Pachuca up, 1-0.  At about the 17 min. mark, Erik collected a ball in the middle, dribbled to near 20 yds. right and fired a shot on goal which the GK stopped.  At about the 25 min. mark, Skylar sent a left-corner kick into the box and a melee ensued .  Ebo found the ball at his feet and kicked in the goal but it was negated due a bizarre offsides call.  At the 26 min. mark, Erik collected a pass near 22 yds. right and fired a shot on goal which the GK caught.  Around the 32 min. mark, Skylar received a ball near 20 yds. right and fired a hard shot which went over the cross-bar.  And, at the 37 min.mark, Ricardo collected a pass near 25 yds. left and sent a hard shot on goal which went wide.  In all total, Inter would take 5 shots on goal and setup 5 corner kicks but came away with just a lone goal, and the half ended, 1-0, Pachuca. 

In the 2nd half, Inter kicked off and would control most of the half.  The defense held SYA to just 1 shot on goal and 1 corner kick which were both unsuccessful.  The Copperheads committed 12 fouls (including a YC shown to #19 for a hard foul) while Pachuca committed 7 fouls (including a YC shown to Ricardo for a push).  The Internationals launched a barrage of  6 shots on goal and 1 corner kick which was unsuccessful.  At the 4 min.mark, Ricardo received a pass near 20 yds. center and kicked a hard shot which went high over the cross-bar.  At the 14min. mark, Skylar sent a free kick from about 22 yds. left into the box where Ricardo jumped up to head strike the ball into the right side of the net to put Inter up, 2-0.   At the 18 min. mark, a ball was served into the box where Chris head-flicked a ball on goal which the GK stopped.  Around the 30 min. mark, Ricardo received a pass near 30 yds. center, turned and sent a hard shot on goal which the GK finger-tip-saved.  One min. later, Stephen collected a ball near 25 yds. right and sent a shot towards goal which went wide left, and at the 33 min. mark, Matt took another ball upfield into SYA’s box where he was fouled.  Ricardo took the PK but it went wide right, and the match ended several minutes later, 2-0, Internationals.

24 May ’09. The Internationals returned to the MD SoccerPlex on a hot, humid, mid-afternoon for a Semi-Final match against its friends from Maine, Seacoast United, whom it tied, 0-0, in a hard-fought battle in last year’s 3rd Prelim match after which Inter advanced to the Semi-Final on points. Today's match was another hard-fought battle and entertaining match.  The Maine team was big, strong and quick up top, but Pachuca would strike first at the 5 min. mark when Erik passed a ball from the middle over to Nate on the left side who passed it upfield to Chris on the left outside 18-20 yds. who served the ball into the box where Nate ran onto it to punch in the go-ahead goal. At the 31 min. mark, Skylar collected a pass near 20 yds. right and sent a shot on goal which went wide left. Four mins. later, Ebo possessed a ball near 30 yds. center and sent a shot which went wide left. And, at the 40 min. mark, Vitalis served a ball from the left side into the box where Nate’s header was stopped by the GK. Seacoast notched the equalizer goal at the 11 min. mark off of a counter-attack when a long ball was sent upfield over the back line and a Seacoast player collected the ball to send a shot past Seth into the net. Seacoast setup 3 shots on goal and 2 corner kicks while committing 11 (fouls including 2 handballs). Inter committed 7 fouls (including 2 offsides). Seacoast held Inter to just 3 shots on goal and no corner kicks and the half ended, 1-1.

In the 2nd half, Inter would take 4 shots on goal and no corners. At the 10 min. mark, Vitalis rcvd a ball near 20 yds. left and sent a hard shot on goal which went wide left. But, Inter would take the lead at the 19 min. mark off of a free kick by Skylar from 25 yds. right into the box where Chris timed his header to knock in the goal, giving Pachuca the lead, 2-1. At the 27 min. mark, Nate passed a ball from the right over to Erik in the middle who served it into the box where Chris ran to the ball in the air to attempt a chest-shot which went wide right. At the 38 min. mark, Ebo collected a ball near 25 yds. center and struck a hard shot on goal which went over the cross-bar. Inter committed 5 fouls (including 2 handballs) while Seacoast also committed 5 fouls (including a YC shown to #7 for a hard foul and #12 for USB). Seacoast would take 2 shots on goal and 1 corner kick which were all unsuccessful – except one. At the 33 min. mark, after a strong throw-in from the right sideline into the box, Seacoast (#10) was able to possess the ball to turn and fire in the tieing goal, and the match ended in regulation time, 2-2.

In the 1st x 5 min. OT, neither team could setup any scoring opportunities with Seacoast and Inter both committing 1 foul each (Inter 1 handball).

In the 2nd x 5 min. OT, Seacoast was unable to setup any scoring opportunities while committing 2 fouls. Pachuca managed 1 shot at the 3 min. mark by Vitalis from near 16-18 yds. left side of box but it went over the cross-bar and the match went into PK’s.

Maine took the 1st PK successfully while Erik’s shot was stopped by the GK to the left.

Maine’s 2nd PK hit the left sidebar but official called Seth off his line and Maine allowed to retake the PK which was successful. Inter’s 2nd PK by Ricardo was successful.

Maine’s 3rd PK was successful as was Skylar’s shot.

Maine’s 4th PK was also successful as was Nicholas’ shot.

Maine’s 5th PK was stopped by Seth but official called Seth off his line and Maine allowed to retake the PK which was successful. Inter’s 5th PK by Ebo was successful.

Maine’s 6th PK was successful but V’s shot went over the cross-bar and Maine won the Semi-Final to move onto the Final to play the other Semi-Final winner, Great Falls 91 Elite, who would go on to win the Championship match over Seacoast, 2-1, in OT.

23 May ’09.  In the 2nd preliminary match in the afternoon, the Internationals faced the Bruno United team from RI. In the 1st half, Inter held the United to no shots on goal and 3 corner kicks which were unsuccessful.  Bruno committed 4 fouls (including 2 handballs) while Inter committed 6 fouls (including 4 offsides).   The Internationals setup up 1 corner kick which was unsuccessful, and created  4 shots on goal. At about the 7 min. mark, Patrick passed a nice ball to Chris near 30yds. right who then dribbled upfield to around 20 yds. right and sent a rocket blast into the net past the GK to put Pachcua up, 1-0.  At about the 12 min. mark, Skylar collected a ball near 25 yds. left and sent a shot which went wide right.   Several minutes later, around the16 min. mark, Vitalis collected a ball near 25 yds. and sent a hard shot on goal which the GK stopped.  About the 22 min. mark, Chris collected a ball near 18 yds. left and passed it to Nate inside the box near 12 yds. right but his shot went wide left.   And, at the 37 min. mark, Schillo collected a ball inside the box but his shot was caught by the GK, and the half ended, 1-0, Inter.

In the 2nd half, Pachuca kicked off and would notch the go-ahead goal in the 1st minute.  Skylar passed a ball from near 25-28 yds. right to Nate in the right corner who served a nice cross into the box where Chris timed his leap up to head strike in the goal.  At the 7 min. mark, Matt collected a ball in the left back, dribbled upfield to near 20 yds. center and dished a ball over to Chris just inside the 18 yd. line whose shot went wide right.  At the19 min. mark, Ricardo received a ball near 20 yds. left, turned and sent a left-footed shot on goal which the GK caught. One min. later, Schillo received a ball near 22 yds. left and fired a shot which went wide right.   At the 28 min. mark, Schillo collected another ball near 19-20 yds. right and sent a hard shot on goal which the GK caught.  And, at the 38 min. mark, Chris crossed a nice ball from outside the left side of the 18 yd. line into the box where Ebo was in perfect position to collect the stopped ball by the GK and strike in the 3rd goal.   The Internationals committed 5 fouls (including 1 handball) while Bruno committed 4 fouls (including 1 handball and 1 offsides). Inter held Bruno to 2 shots on goal and 2 corner kicks which were all unsuccessful, and the match ended, 3-1, Pachuca.

23 May ’09.  It was a splendid and 3 sunny late morning at the MD Soccer Plex where the Internationals faced the hard-working Metro FC Rapids 91 (OH-S).  Although the pitch was dry, it was unusually slippery nonetheless – and it would go against Pachuca in the 1stminute.   The Metro Rapids kicked off but Pachuca quickly possessed the ball; however, due to immediate defensive pressure, Erik passed back from near mid-field to the around 22 yds. center, but as Mati attempted to collect the passed ball, he slipped to the turf and a Metro player possessed the ball to fire in a shot past Seth to put the Rapids up 1-0.    The Metro team would manage 3 other shots on goal, 2 of which went awry and another from about 18yds. center which was stopped by Seth.   The Rapids also set up 6 corner kicks but all were unsuccessful including a finger-tip-save by Seth.  The Rapids committed 7 fouls including 2 YC’s shown to #3 and #10 for hard fouls and 1 shown to #5 for USB.    Although down 1 goal early on, the Internationals kept their focus and determination, setting up numerous scoring opportunities.  Several minutes after the Metro goal and a foul by the Rapids, Skylar sent a free kick from around 22 yds. right into the box where Philip deflected the ball to Schillo whose shot was caught by the GK.  At the 19 min. mark, Patrick collected a pass near 22 yds. center and fired a shot which went over the cross-bar.  Two mins. later, Erik crossed a nice ball from the right sideline into the box and Philip’s header went over the cross-bar.  At the 25 min. mark, Skylar passed a ball from the right side upfield to guest-player from Saprissa(CTR), Ricardo, near 25 yds. center who dribbled 3-4 yds. before sending a strike into the net to knot the score, 1-1.  Ricardo also had another chance at the 28 min. mark from about 20 yds. center which the GK caught. And, just as time was exprining, Schillo sent a nice pace to Ricardo near 22 yds. center but his shot sailed high over the cross-bar.  Inter setup just 1 corner kick which was unsuccessful and committed 5 fouls (including 1 offsides and 1 hand-ball), and the half ended, 1-1.

Pachuca kicked off in the 2nd half with a strong cross-wind blowing left to right.  The Internationals’ strong defense denied the Rapids from setting up any shots on goal, although they did create 5 corner kicks which were all unsuccessful.  Metro committed 3 fouls (including 1 handball) while Pachuca committed 10 fouls (including 3 offsides and 1 handball).  The Internationals also setup 5 corner kicks which were all unsuccessful.  The Rapids stepped up their defense, holding Inter to just 3 shots on goal.  At the 3 min. mark, Nate collected a ball inside the box and fired a shot which went wide right.  Ricardo received a pass near 25-26 yds. center and fired a hard blast which sailed over the cross-bar.  And, at the 32 min. mark, Ebo also sent a hard shot form near 20 yds. center which bounced off the cross-bar, and the match ended, 1-1.
