Lions Varsity scratches out a Homecoming victory over Cougars 44-22    The Canton Lions improve their record to 5-0 behind the strong play of the O-Line. James Dodge, Austin Banfield, and company made holes all day for RB Malcolm Hollingsworth to exploit, Hollingsworth finished with 4TD’s. QB Jamarl Eiland turned in another productive day passing, including a TD toss to Nate Emminger. Emminger added a kickoff return for a TD late in the game. A Lion fumble could have been a disaster had it not been for the heads up play of WR Tony Nyberg, who recovered the loose ball. The D found a new big hitter in Wally Turner, who plays both S and LB. Alex Smith and Lucas Bunting spent most of the afternoon in the Belleville backfield putting a stop to plays before they could get going. Brandon Lee, Cody Korpus, and Brendan Swanson were all instrumental in stopping the Cougars strong sweep attack. The Lions will try to remain undefeated as they welcome the Lake Area Hawks next Sunday October 5th.

Varsity Lions persevere through nail-biter 40-37-Adversity becomes a platform on which character is displayed. The Canton Lions Varsity squad overcame adversity by displaying the character (and heart) of a champion. Facing a 17 point deficit in the first half, the Lions clawed their way back into a hard fought game, and were down 29-20 at the half; the second half belonged to the Lions. The offense was lead by a balanced attack that kept Farmington on its heels much of the game. Jamarl Eiland torched the Rockets secondary with help from receivers Kyle Durham, Luke Denzer, and Scott Gring. The offensive line, led by center Danny Stropes, made holes for RB Malcom Hollingsworth to explode through, and with two minutes left in the game Eiland followed Stropes on a QB keeper for the go ahead touchdown.Jamarl Eiland brought his big play mentality to the defensive side of the ball as well, intercepting two Farmington passes. Chandler Berlin sacked the quarterback at a key situation in the game, leading to a turnover on downs. After yielding 29 points in the first half of play, the defense gave up only 8 in the second. With the Lions up 40-37 the Rockets were driving down the field, and with only a little over a minute left Scott Gring caused a fumble that the Lions would recover - extinguishing any chance of a last minute Farmington come back. After the game, fans from both sides could be overheard saying ‘I think this was the best football game I have ever seen’. They were right.

Junior Varsity fall 28 – 8 at Farmington - The Canton Lions Offense could not get fired-up while losing the contest (8-28) to the Farmington Rockets.  The Lions did not score in the 1st half, however in the 2nd half Daniel Jipping powered in a (1) yard touchdown run and Evan Thomas added the (2) point PAT kick to wrap-up the Lions scoring.  Defensive standouts included Jake Stropes, James Hall, Charles Turfe, Andrew Hunt, Nathan Hamel, Daniel Kilgore, and Austin Fisher (fumble recovery).

Freshman lose a thriller in last minutes - The Lions Freshman lost a thriller in the last minutes of play by the score of 26-21.  The Lions took the lead with just over two minutes to play with a 60 yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Shaw Lyall but couldn’t hold off the Rockets speedy offense. The offense moved the ball all day with with strong play from Jordan Burg, Ryan Schlieger, Carter Kahl, Patrick Wayne, and Austin Stoneburg.  The defense was paced by the hard hitting of Damarcus Kaigler, Issac Jackson, and Jackob Wickens.

Canton Lions Jr. Freshmen Shine -Justin Reynolds rushed for three 40 plus yard touchdowns as the Lions’ Jr. Freshmen came alive against the Farmington Rockets on Sunday. Noah Brown added another long run to the goal line while Myles Wagstaff and Lucas O’Brien played keys roles on the offense.  The defense held strong with support from Nicholas Krone, Tony Shembri, Avery Olson and Kollin Murray.
