Westfield 4 Woking 2

Posted by Westfield FC Youth U15 at Feb 28, 2004 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

‘Field came out fired up and really hit the ground running putting Woking under relentless pressure for the first 20 min’s of this game. It was no supprise when Sam Lewiston opened the scoring with a quality finish from the edge of the box, then great pace and a good cross from ‘Field captain Flavio Cappiello carved out a chance for Mike Robson who rose to head home the second. Being a local derby it was always going to be a competitive game and Woking showed good battling qualities mid way through the half when against the run of play they pulled a goal back with a good header, the goal seemed to spur them on and they played really well for the rest of the half and created some good opportunities. After the break it was a fairly even affair ’Field’s defence of James Barrett, Steve Buckland and Joe Taylor all having good second halves and limiting Wokings chances to a minimum, then in form Lewiston again showed good finishing as he broke clear looked up and picked his spot to make it 3-1. Still not finished Woking again reduced the deficit Ross Fleming scoring with a sweet strike from the edge of the box. The final goal in a good and competitive game came after home keeper Liam Stone, who had a good game throughout, made a good save, the ball was played out quickly to Nick Worsley who turned his man on the halfway line and burst away to finished well and secure the points.

Squad: Liam Stone, Jamie Folley, Dave Shutt, Steve Buckland, James Barrett, James Kealy, Mark Robson, Mike Robson, Joe Taylor, Sam Lewiston, Flavio Cappiello. Subs: Nick Worsley, Duke Munroe, Tom Bentley

Merton Hall 1 Westfield 8 A superb team effort saw 'Field safely into the County Cup Semi-Final next month. On a small boggy pitch against a very competitive Merton Hall, 'Field showed terrific team spirit and played some quality football. Liam Stone in goal was in fine form from the start, commanding his box and coming out bravely on several occassions. Centre backs James Barrett, Steve Buckland and Dave Shutt all looked really fired up and imposed themselves on the dangerous Hall forwards containing them through out the majority of the match, while in midfield Max Galbraith, Dean Hayward-Brown and Mike Robson were everywhere and used the ball to good effect ever time they won it. Wing backs Jamie Folley and Mark Robson both worked tremendously hard up and down the flanks, supplying the forwards with regular good possesion, Duke Munroe replaced Robson just after half time he too should be pleased with his contribution. The front two Sam Lewiston and captain Flavio Cappiello were a constant handful for Hall, both playing unselfishly and creating regular chances for each other and team-mates. The goals came four in each half, the scorers were Lewiston 3, Cappiello 2, Folley 2 and sub James Kealy just back from injury who fired home at the far post to cap a great day. Squad: Liam Stone, Jamie Folley, Dave Shutt, Steve Buckland, James Barrett, Mark Robson, Max Galbraith, Mike Robson, Dean Hayward-Brown, Sam Lewiston, Flavio Cappiello. Subs: Duke Munroe, James Kealy, Tom Bentley.

Westfield 0 Carshalton FC 2

A really good and sporting game between two footballing sides saw Carshalton FC come out on top thanks to two second half goals. I think even Carshalton would accept that a draw may have been a fair result on the day. 'Field played some excellent football, going close on three or four occasions in the first half against a weakened Carshalton side due to some missing regulars. Jamie Folley hit the crossbar with a sweetly struck free kick and Sam Lewiston bravley went close heading past the keeper only for an accidental collision to send him to hospital with an eye injury. The second half saw more good football from both sides, this time Carshalton hit the crossbar and were sharp enough to follow up and score. A second after some excellent skills from Carshalton's Tupper created a team mate an opening extended thier lead. 'Field continued to show great spirit and desire as they pressed forwards and forced a couple of quality saves out of the away keeper, but it was not to be on the day, they could however take heart from a good showing against Carshalton who are a quality side. Squad: Liam Stone, Dave Shutt, Steve Buckland, James Barrett, Max Galbraith, Jamie Folley, Mike Robson, Joe Taylor, Duke Munroe, Sam Lewiston, Flavio Cappiello. Subs: Nick Worsley, Mark Robson, Tom Bentley.

'Field through to last eight of County Cup

Posted by Vic Locke at Jan 24, 2004 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Surrey County Cup u16 Westfield 6 Hersham 5 'Field progressed into the last 8 of the county cup after a real "game of two halves". 'Field played some of their best football of the season in the first half, creating loads of chances and going 4-0 up with goals from Mike Robson, Jamie Folley, Sam Lewiston and Flavio Cappiello. The second half saw James Barrett extend the lead a defender deflecting his shot in to make it 5. Hersham then pulled one back and 'field made three changes, Lewiston made it 6-1 and there was no real sign of what was to come. The home side for some reason at this stage really took their foot off the pedal, allowing plucky Hersham back into a game that had looked well beyond them. Hersham took full advantage having a real purple patch towards the end of the half when everything they touched turned to gold, they scored 4 goals in a ten min spell every one of which was of high quality, giving 'Field a real scare with their brave fightback. Squad: Liam Stone, Nick Worsley, Steve Buckland, Joe Taylor, James Barrett, Jamie Folley, Mark Robson, Mike Robson, Max Galbraith, Sam Lewiston, Flavio Cappiello. Subs: Ross Melinn, Tom Bentley, David Shutt.
