.

Coach Kevin O'Donnel completed his sixth year on the coaching staff and his fifth as the Reserve coach.  He also serves as the strength and conditioning coach.  He is not new to coaching high school athletes as his resume includes stints coaching wrestling, rugby and club soccer.

Coach Kevin is passionate about players reaching their potential.  He works to provide instruction in a manner that the players look forward to accomplishing the task at hand.

In 2006, he was an assistant to the Varsity and Reserve teams.  His top-notch aid was recognized as he was voted the Dayton South Assistant Coach of the Year.  The following year, he was promoted to the reserve coaching position.  During his tenure, he has led the underclassmen to a five-year record of 39-19-20.

This fall, he led a spirited group of 11 freshman to a 2-6-8 record. Each player showed marked improvement throughout the season.  In 2010, under his guidance the reserve team had arguably the best year ever finishing 10-2-3 with 11 shutouts and only 5 goals conceded.  Coach Kevin's effort was recognized, once again, as he was named the 2010 Dayton South Assistant Coach of the Year.

Kevin's playing days included football and wrestling in high school.  He is a 1976 graduate of MHS.  In college, he was introduced to the sport of rugby and started a 15 year amateur career that took him to the highest levels in the United States.  Kevin played on the All-Ohio team for 6 years, the All-Midwest team for 3 years and was invited to the rugby national team tryouts.  He was recognized as one of the top 8 players for his position in the country.

In the mid-90's, he became involved with youth soccer and coached recreational and select soccer for over 12 years.  He and Coach Campbell became friends and coaching peers in the Star City Soccer club.

He is married to Karin and has two sons, Patrick and Andrew.

SIGNS & SPONSORS

Posted by Terry Stump at Jun 26, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Later this week, we will begin contacting potential sponsors of the Miamisburg High School Lady Vikings and Boys Soccer teams for the upcoming 2008 season. This is a great opportunity for companies and individuals to associate themselves with a successful Miamisburg sports program. We have three sponsorship options for the companies or individuals to select from, the details of which are given below.
Where do you fit in?  We would like each family to offer one or two suggestions of companies/ individuals that may be interested in this opportunity. Potential sponsors include:
  • stores and restaurants that you frequent,
  • doctors, dentists, orthodontists, etc. that you visit,
  • the company you work for, and
  • other community-minded concerns such as banks, lawyers, realtors, or construction firms.
Just send us the name of the company/ individual, the person to whom our letter should be addressed (owner, manager, etc.), and an address. Please email your replies to Vikings.Soccer@sbcglobal.net. We’ll take care of the rest.
This sponsorship program has proven successful in the past, but we feel there is still a lot of room for growth. By everyone taking a little time to identify potential sponsors, we can make this a truly rewarding (and lucrative!) activity, one that future Miamisburg soccer teams can continue to build on.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Some Much Needed Rest

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Jun 25, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Players (and soccer family),

Today is the start of 10 days of rest.  I know that some of you are going on vacation, some to camp and some just working & hanging out.  Regardless of what you do,
I AM ASKING THAT YOU USE THESE DAYS TO REST.

Enjoy these next 10 days by NOT playing soccer and NOT running.  To stay in shape.....go swimming or biking.  This gives your legs and feet a nice rest while still working on your cardio.

This rest period is given so that you can just forget about soccer for a couple weeks and rejuvenate your mind and body.  PLAIN AND SIMPLE....GO HAVE FUN.

As you have fun, keep our core values in mind and make smart decisions for your life.  Be a leader amongst your peers doing the right things.  Help your family around the house.

I look forward to seeing you at Open Field on July 5th, but until then......BE SMART AND SAFE.

FOR SOCCER,
Coach Ric

P.S.   If you are going to buy new cleats for the fall season, get them now so that you have plenty of time to break them in before tryouts.
