WOW....WHAT A GREAT WEEK

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Jul 15, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

GOOD DAY.......SOCCER TEAM  (and family):

Let me start with a simple statement......what a great week we just completed.  I could not be much prouder than I am right now of the effort put forth by our young men.  Earlier in the week, I gave the boys a paper that talked about becoming a team and being committed to giving our best.  I believe we took a major first step in that direction!!!

As I look back on the week, I want to thank all of the parents who drove their boys around.  THANK YOU PARENTS!  I know that some of the driving was rather lengthy and some was early in the morning, but you came through.  I appreciate your support and I believe it was a critical component to our success.

Secondly, I want to thank my coaching staff.   THANK YOU Coach Kevin, Coach Dave and Coach Jerry.   Your motivation, knowledge and support adds value to me, the players and the program.  We could not do it without you.  You are making us better.

Thirdly, I want to thank those players who gave "double duty" effort by playing on both teams at the tournament.  THANK YOU Marcus Hanson, Daniel Hurt, Brian Lakes, Orly Leiva, Diego Torres, Cody Kalbfleisch, Wil Downing and Drew O'Donnel.  You gave a stellar effort to both squads and I cannot thank you enough.

Lastly, I want to thank the 33 players who performed at the OHIO CUP.  THANK YOU TEAM!!!  I am pretty confident that we were the only group who had practiced 7 times in the previous four days, who had "two touch" limitations on their play and was being played in numerous new positions.....AND YOU DID GREAT!!!  As I said before, " I  AM  SO  PROUD  OF  YOU  AND  YOUR  EFFORT. "

I do want to recognize several players who gave superior performances.  CONGRATULATIONS to Marcus Hanson, Daniel Hurt, Brian Lakes, Daniel Wolcott, Kevyn Bange, Aaron Reichel, Taylor Dunaway and all four keepers; Nick Schwartz, Cody Kalbfleisch, Trey Oldham and Jimmy Tuccillo.  I believe that we had many players give a strong effort, but you guys lifted your game to a new level, a level we had not seen before and it was exciting to watch.

Lastly, I want to encourage everyone to keep working hard the next 20 days as we prepare for the season.  I hope to see you at open fields, conditioning, weight lifting and the AIR SHOW FUNDRAISER.  Each of these events are OPTIONAL, but your participation will add great value to you and to the program.   Remember, we all reap what we sow.....and now is the time to be sowing hard work towards getting better.

FOR SOCCER,
Coach Ric

31 DAYS FROM TRYOUTS

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Jul 4, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Hello soccer players (and family):

Well, we are in the countdown mode.......31 days until tryouts.   I hope that everyone enjoyed the rest period and time away.  I also hope that you have done everything you could have to get yourself ready for this fall.   We have a GREAT chance to have a super season, but alot depends on you and your preparation.

This month is filled with OPTIONAL soccer activity.  We start our morning conditioning, we continue our open fields and weight lifting, and next week we have a full week of contact days culminating in the OHIO CUP tournament.  I would also encourage everyone to be juggling and doing ball situps and pushups every day until tryouts.  It is so important to be able to accomplish the tryout expectations.

This is such an exciting time.....I can't wait to get started.   A quick reminder to please make sure that you are accessing the website on a daily basis.  We will be using it as a main way to communicate information to everyone and we don't want you to miss out.

I look forward to seeing all of you at conditioning tomorrow morning at 6:15am.

For Soccer,
Coach Ric

P.S.   If you are going to get new cleats for the fall.....BUY THEM NOW......this will give you plenty of time to break them in before tryouts.  You do NOT want blisters because of new cleats at tryouts.

COACH RIC CAMPBELL

Posted by Terry Stump at Jul 2, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Head Coach Boys Varsity (2006-2011)
Contact - 937-902-9414   or worldcup7@aol.com

Coach Campbell completed his sixth year at the helm and became the career win leader for Miamisburg soccer. His focus is to provide a teaching environment where athletes can have the best opportunity for continual improvement.  His goal is for each player to reach their potential by giving their best, first time, every time in each area of their life.

In 2011, the team achieved its fourth consecutive winning season for the first time in school history and matched the second best record at 12-5-2. They also added a fourth straight Top Ten finish at #6 (highest ever) in the final Miami Valley Coaches poll, won its third OHSAA Sectional championship in the past four years and tied the school record for wins in a season (12) and least number of goals conceded in a season (20).  It was a very good year.

This is a continuation of the legacy of winning that has been built over the past four seasons. In 2009, the Vikings won their very first conference championship and Coach Campbell was recognized as the GWOC South Coach of the Year. In 2008, the Vikings completed the second best season ever (12-5-2) and Coach Campbell hit the trifecta for Coach of the Year honors. He was recognized as the GWOC South Conference, the Dayton South and the Miami Valley District Coach of the Year.

Upon his arrival in 2006, Coach Campbell brought to the program over 35 years of soccer experience.  His coaching career began in the amateur club ranks in the mid-80's.  In 1988, he became the head coach for the West Carrollton Pirates.  In his four years in charge, he turned the program into a winner and was voted the Dayton South Coach of the Year in 1991.  Ric spent the next 15 years coaching U9-U15 youth select players.

Prior to coaching, he had a rewarding playing career.  He was a four-year varsity starter for Dayton Christian high school where he earned numerous All-Area, All-District and All-State honors. His All-American collegiate career was spent at NAIA and NCCAA soccer power, Judson University. He led them to three national tournament appearances, finishing national runner-up in 1982, as well as graduating as the school's All-Time scoring leader.  His name is still scattered throughout the school's record books some 25 years later.  In 2005, he was the 4th soccer player inducted into Judson University's Athletic Hall of Fame.

He is still very active with youth soccer completing his 10th year on the Miamisburg Soccer Association Board of Directors.  A long-time resident of Miamisburg, he is married to his college sweetheart, Connie, and has two sons, Tyler and Travis.
