Dear Soccer Family:

For the second year in a row, our group has suffered the loss of one of our "Soccer Moms" and my heart goes out to the Schmolinsky family at this very difficult time.  I ask that you join me in holding them up in your thoughts and prayers.

I personally am at a loss with the passing of Sue as she was a wonderful support to our program and to me.  She always wanted what was best for her boys and required the same of me as their coach.  She pushed me to be my best and for that I am grateful.  Her attention to academics gave me a solid focus for our players. I will hold her strength as a guide and measuring stick for my own contribution to our young men.

I will be asking each family to work with Karin O'Donnel as we assist the Schmolinskys in whatever way possible.  I also ask that you please consider making a donation to the Susan B. Schmolinsky Scholarship fund in her honor. Information is on the "Important News" page.

Sincerely,

Coach Ric

UNDEFEATED WEEK BOOSTS TEAM SPIRITS

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Sep 20, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Soccer Players and families:

Nothing better than an undefeated week to boost the spirits.  Our 1-0 upset of #6th ranked Lebanon started the week and a 4-0 beating of Stebbins bookended our tie with Greenville.  Though, we did not play great all three games we did get some good results.

These results led to the Vikings being voted #10 in the MVSSCA Coaches Poll this week.  It is our first ranking back in the poll after falling out after week one.  I do  believe we are a Top Ten team, but we need to play like it ALL THE TIME.

Another GWOC South game on Tuesday at home......Xenia comes to visit.  We are 1-0 so far and still have the lead on a conference championship.  One win at a time and Xenia is the next hurdle.  We must play to our potential to have a chance for victory.

Lastly, we are planning a dinner out after practice on Thursday.  We will practice 5:00-7:00pm, shower at the school and then head up to Cadillac Jacks for dinner.  We hope to be able to show the Stebbins tape on the big screen for our viewing pleasure.  I am asking that all players attend.

For Soccer,

Coach Ric

A ROLLER-COASTER WEEK

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Sep 13, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Players and Soccer Family,

Last week was a bit of a rollercoaster ride as we played great versus Sidney, but could not sustain the same effort on the road in Troy.  We have now gone two weeks without a win, but the boys continue to work hard.

We have a very full week with three road games in the next 6 days.  Lebanon on Tuesday, Greenville on Thursday and varsity only at Stebbins on Saturday.  A chance for us to improve our record.

A reminder to all players of our core values and school pledge.  We must do our school work to stay eligible each week and we must not participate in any activity that goes against our pledge.  No drugs, alcohol or cheating in school.  Use the "Core Values" as your guide to make the right choices!

Lastly, we must take care of ourselves physically.....that means eating right, getting enough sleep and dressing appropriately for the weather.  We cannot afford for players to miss due to illness.  Please pay attention to these items!

For Soccer,

Coach Ric

FRUSTRATING WEEK FOLLOWS THE VIKINGS

Posted by Jeffrey Thompson at Sep 5, 2009 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Dear Soccer Players & Family,

We did endure a frustrating week without a victory, but were able to keep the Gary Kimmel Memorial trophy for the 4th year in a row.  I am fully aware that this week has caused some negative moments for those of us in the program and all I can do is encourage everyone to stay focused, stay positive and continue to improve.

We have a busy week ahead of us with our Sidney match at home on Tuesday, the Reserves away on Wednesday at Alter and both teams on the road to Troy on Thursday.  We will have food for both teams on Thursday at the school prior to the bus leaving.

I want to remind everyone of their role in the program......coaches will prepare the players for the matches, as well as select those who play and how many minutes they are on the pitch; the players hopefully stay focused ON THEMSELVES by trying to improve their skills and fitness and our families will encourage the players and support the coaching staff.

Please remember that we are seeing you in practice and games.  If you want more playing time the secret is simple.......work your hardest in practice, be focused, eliminate errors and improve your play.....AND YOU WILL PLAY MORE......GUARANTEED!!!

Looking forward to a great week!

For Soccer
