Astros Spring 2003 Update - 02/25/03

Posted by Frederick Chan at Feb 24, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
We are trying to schedule some practice games for Saturday, 3/01 and know that there is the season ending basketball tournament at the Bellaire Rec center. Please send me a note if you may have a conflict. As of now, the people at Greater Sugarland have a conflict with their field so we wil probably play at the KC field on Saturday afternoon. I would still like to play them as long as we can field a team. Most likely game times would now be 2 and 4pm. Rain out / cold out for tonight - 2/25. We will try again on Wednesday. Due to the rains, our schedules moving forward are going to be in a constant change of flux. We will try to keep all posted as quickly as we know the status of the fields. Everyone should confirm a cell number so that we can call people real time if there are changes See KC web page below for any updates. http://www.eteamz.com/kcpony/ 1 week Schedule for wk beginning 2/25 2/25 Tuesday Practice at Levy - 6 - 8:00pm Rain Out 2/26 Wednesday Practice at M5 - 8 - 9:30pm 2/28 Friday Practice at Rassimus - 6:30 - 8:00pm 3/01 Saturday Practice game with Greater Sugarland Game time TBD , 2 and 4pm - ??? Posted by Frederick Chan at Feb 17, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Subject:Astros - Spring 2003 Information - 2/18 Update Date:Tue, 18 Feb 2003 18:37:01 - 0600 Slight change to practice start time on Wednesday since we have conflicts with a multitude of folks due to confirmation classes. I have also updated the Volunteer list attached, nothing is firm so send me any changes. I may have swapped a few positions that works best for the team. Please check emails and phone numbers. Schedules are subject to change. We will play a couple practice games with Greater Sugarland Pony League. Schedule for wk beginning 2/17 2/19 Wednesday Practice at Rassimus - 6:30 - 8:00pm - be there at 6:15pm to warm up 2/21 Friday Practice at Levy - 8:00 - 9:30pm 2/22 Saturday Practice at M5 - 10 - 12:00pm We will practice some at Strake High School, not currently on the schedule. Rassimus Field - is off Fondren between Westpark and Richmond behind Piney Point Elementary, it is next to Blossom Heights Park Strake High School is on Bellaire, about 2 blocks past the corner of Gessner and Bellaire. Coming down Gessner from 59, take a left at Bellaire. Go past the Fiesta grocery store about 2 blocks and take a right into Strake High School. Go down several hundred yards through the parking lot where it dead ends in to a field house. The football field is straight ahead and the baseball field is on the left. You have to go through the gate to the to the baseball cages. We are looking for help in several areas to support our league. Look at the list of positions in volunteer list and find a #1 and #2 choice. Any items that are missing, will get assigned. We DO NOT have to do any concession stand duty this Spring. Get your choice in now. 1) Team parent - general support of coach as needed Need 1 plus backup. 2) Scorekeeper and announcer - each team will provide 1 person to the scoring booth each game to do one of those functions. 3) Duty officer - will be responsible for opening and closing the field and be available for any general items per night. Need 1 plus backup. 4) Field Maintenance - responsible for racking field before and after each game,5-10 minutes, and be available to help prepare field if rain conditions. Normally need 2 per game 5) Sponsor - seek out sponsor from team people or other, need 1 - $500 sponsor or can split with others. Looking forward to a great Spring season. Astros win KC Fall Championship

Posted by Ken St.Aubin at Nov 20, 2002 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The Astros won a thrilling game vs the Marlins 4 - 3 in the fall season championship. An outstanding pitching duel between Karl Pringle of the Astros and Daniel Rothenberg for the 1st 4 innings and an excellent effort by Garrett Hester for the final 3 inninngs paced the way. Garrett struck out the last 2 batters with the tieing run at 2nd base to preserve the victory. In addition to Karl's pitching he also got on base each time to score 3 of the 4 Astros runs. Numerous defensive plays by all at critical spots in the game in both the infield and great running catches in the outfield paved the way for a total team effort. the Astros finally caught the Marlins in this last game as both teams finished with an overall record of 14 - 4 - 1, but the Astros not only won the Championship game, but beat the Marlins 3 of 4 times in the series. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PLAYERS AND SUPPORTING PARENTS for making this a successful season to remember. Last event of the year is Saturday at 1:00pm at the KC Field for a parents vs kids baseball game and barbecue lunch.
