Congratulations to our JV Commandos for winning the 2018 City by the Lake Invitational JV Tournament.  We have hosted this tournament for the past 8 years and it has become a great event for the JV teams in our area. 

The JV Commandos last won the tournament in 2015. 

This year's squad defeated Beech and Goodpasture in pool play to gain the #1 seed heading into elimination play.

The Commandos defeated Rossview 2-1 in the semi-finals and Station Camp 7-6 in the Championship Game.

Freshman LHP Jacob Sheley was named MVP of the tournament for picking up two wins on the mound.  Robert Konrad also had three saves. 

The JV Commandos will wrap up theie season with a home game vs Wilson Central on May 1.

Another week gone by, another update to the Power 25. 

A couple of notes on the new poll:

- Mt. Juliet remains at the top after a 2-0 week.

- Brentwood is your biggest riser for the 2nd straight week, going 3-1 to improve their overall record to 18-7. They will be hosting the district tournament this week.

- Rossview is your top newcomer to the rankings, debuting at #20. They are coming off a 5-0 week, which included 3 wins by 10 or more runs.

- Trinity Christian and Greenbrier are your other debuting teams. Trinity Christian went 2-0 this week to improve to 20-4 while Greenbrier also went 2-0 this week to improve to 20-5 as they won their district regular season.

HHS DEFEATS GALLATIN 8-0

The Commandos won the first game of a District 9AAA double-header against Gallatin 8-0. 

Junior right-hander Cameron Hansen picked up his 7th win of the year going the games first six innings, allowing only two hits while striking out 4 Green Wave hitters.  Brandon Tucker came on in the 7th to complete the shut-out.

The Commandos scored single runs in the first and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead.  Harrison Williams had a two-out double in the first to score Hayden Mullins who had singled earlier in the inning.  In the fourth doubles off the bat of Reid Nelson and Gabe Dalton produced a run to make the score 2-0.

HHS would put the game away for good in the top of the 7th.  Austin Mays tripled with one out and following a walk to Hayden Mullins, Brett Coker doubled to score Mays and pinch runner Grant Lang to make the score 4-0.  An intentional walk to Harrison Williams was followed by a single from Hayden Layne to score Coker and make the score 5-0.  Gabe Dalton hit his second double of the game to score Williams and Layne scored on a Nate Vaughn single to make the score 8-0 Commandos.

With the win, HHS improves to 23-4 overall and 9-2 in District 9AAA.

HHS DEFEATS GALLATIN 9-0

The Commandos picked up a second straight shut-out on senior night to defeat the Green Wave of Gallatin 9-0.

Junior left-hander Hayden Mullins picked up his third win of the year going five innings allowing one hit and striking out 9 Wave hitters.  Kobe Carter struck out two in his inning of work and senior Michael Waller struck out two in his one inning of work to complete the shut-out for the Commando pitching staff.

The Commandos scored a run in the first innning as Austin Mays led off with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A Brett Coker single, his first of three hits on the day, scored Mays to make the score 1-0 Commandos,

HHS would put the game away in the second inning with 6 runs. A lead-off walk to Gabe Dalton was followed with a single off the bat of Nate Vaughn.  Dalton advanced to third on the Vaughn single and then a Reid Nelson followed with an RBI single to score Dalton.  Courtesey runner Matthew Dorris and Nelson advanced on a wild pitch to second and third.  Austin Mays doubled to score Nelson and make the score 3-0.  A wild pitch scored Nelson to make it 4-0 and a single from Hayden Mullins made it 5-0 Commandos.  A Brett Coker single moved Mullins to third and a sac fly from Harrison Williams made it 6-0 Commandos.  Hayden Layne doubled to score Coker to make it 7-0.  Gabe Dalton hit what appeared to be a double but for some unknown reason the field umpire called Dalton out on appeal of him missing first base which ended the inning with the score 7-0.

The Commandos got thier final two runs in the bottom of the third.  Hayden Mullins reached on an error and Brett Coker doubled.  Pinch runner Grant Lang scored to make it 8-0 and Harrison Williams hit his second sac fly of the game to make the score 9-0.

Mullins, Carter and Waller took it from there and closed the game out.

With the win, HHS improves to 24-4 on the year and 10-2 in District 9AAA.  The Commandos will next play on Monday April 30 at Wilson Central at 7:00.

HHS DEFEATS SPRINGFIELD 10-0

The Commandos got the best of the Springfield Yellow Jackets on Friday night 10-0.

Sophomore right-hander Caid Sanders picked up his 4th win of the year on the mound going all five innings of the run-ruled shortened game.  Sanders struck out 8, walked none and allowed only two hits.

Hayden Mullins, Noah Owens, Brett Coker, and Noah Owens all had multiple hits for the Commandos.  Mullins, Hayden Layne, Owens and Coker also drove in two runs a piece.

With the win HHS improves to 21-4 on the year overall.
