February 2016 Games

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Feb 7, 2016 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Feb 16, 2016. Clear Creek 65 - Clear Lake 62 in overtime. A valiant second half effort after a lackluster first half.

Season record 16-15; 6-8 in district so Lake will not make the playoffs. Ajare Sanni had 30 points for Lake. This is hte final game of the season.

Feb 12, 2016: Friendswood 54 - Clear Lake 47. With one game remaining Lake's record is 16-14, 6-7. Jeremiah Maldonado led the team with 13 points. For most of the game this was a very "unsatisfying", difficult game to watch. Clear Lake had defeated Friendswood twice before and it is always difficult to defeat a well coached team 3 times in one season. With this loss Clear Lake cannot make the playoffs. Lake plays at Clear Creek  Tuesday for the final game of the season.

Feb 9, 2016: Brazoswood over Clear Lake  59-58. Lake's record is 16-13, 6-6. Scott Bolen went 7 of 8 from the field for 15 points. Ajare Sanni had 15 with 7 of 8 from the free throw line and 4 of 13 from the field.

Feb 5, 2016: Clear Lake 65 - Clear Falls 50. Lake's record is now 16-12, 6-5. Scott Bolen would share the imaginary award of the game ball with John Culbertson. Each had 18 points. Scott Bolen had a double double with 11 rebounds he raked in. This is the sixth game this season he has scored 15 or more points.

Feb 2, 2016: Clear Lake 62 - Clear Brook 54. Lake's record is now 15-12, 5-5. This was an intense basketball game that was thrilling to watch from start to finish. In the previous meeting between these two teams Brook prevailed by outscoring Lake by 20 points. Tonight a determined Lake squad denied Brook another victory by shooting well, doing a better job of rebounding, and cutting down on turnovers. Free throw shooting was weak at 64% (16 of 25).  Brook's was also weak at 63%. Brook's David Azore (#22) (junior) led all scorers with 27 points. Lake's freshman sensation Jeremiah Maldonado had 21, Ajare Sanni had 19, and Jake Ostrowski, who played with a fire in his belly so hot you could almost feel the heat, had 14 points. Friday Lake plays at home versus Clear Falls. With 4 games remaining in regular district play Lake must sustain the level of play demonstrated tonight if we wish to make the playoffs.

January 2016 Games

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Jan 29, 2016 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

Jan 29, 2016: Clear Springs over Clear Lake 65-60. Lake's record is now 14-12, 4-5. Poor shooting from the field in the first half (25%) proved too much to overcome despite a valiant second half come-back attempt.

Jan 26, 2016: Clear Lake 57 - Dickinson 44. Huge win for Lake. Lake is now 14-11, 4-4) . In my opinion District 24-6A is the most balanced it has been in over 20 years. On any given night anyone can beat anyone else.

Jan 22, 2016. Clear Creek 61 - Clear Lake 46 (13-11, 3-4). Getting the ball to go into the hole proved a formidable challenge for the Falcons as they shot the lowest percentage from the field they have shot all season.

Jan 19, 2016. Clear Lake 70 - Friendswood 59 (13-10; 3-3) Ajare Sanni led all scorers with 18. Scott Bolen had 15 and John Culbertson had 13. For results of all 24-6A games go to the page "District 24-6A Standings/Schedule".

Jan 15, 2016. Clear Lake 64 - Brazoswood 40. Record is now 12-10. This is the fifth of 14 district games.

Jan 12, 2016. Clear Falls 57 - Clear Lake 52. Very ugly game. (record is now 11-10; 52.4%). Clear Lake had 8 points off free throws -  8 of 18 (44.4%). Clear Falls had 21 points from free throws -  21 of 25 (84%).

 Jan 8, 2016. Clear Brook 63 - Clear Lake 43. Season record is 11-9. (55% win rate)

Prior to this game, Clear Lake averaged 61 pts. per game. Team leading scorers are Maldonado, Culbertson, and Bolen.

Jan 7, 2016.  T.J. Gittens will not return to the team this season due to his knee injury.

For scores and who beat whom see the "24-6A District Standings Page" from the menu above.

Jan 5, 2016. Game 19:

Clear Lake 60 - Clear Springs 55 (season record 11-8)

Tuesday night in Krueger Field House Clear Lake played the first district home game of the 2015-16 season. The Falcons trailed the entire game, down at times as much as 17 points due to a lackluster performance in the first half. Lake was out-shot, out-rebounded, and just out-played in the first two and one half quarters. At the end of the third quarter it was 37-49, Lake down by 12 but the momentum had shifted to Lake.

The fourth quarter was better for Lake as they took control of the game and methodically narrowed the gap. With just under 3 minutes remaining in the contest a layup by Jack Holt put Lake ahead by 1 for the first time in the game. A lead change and then a tie at 55 (with 55 seconds remaining) when Scott Bolen made 2 with his signature left side spinning layup. With 26.7 seconds remaining, two free throws by Zaid Harris broke the tie at 55. Two more free throws by Jake Ostrowski put Lake up 59-55 with 15 seconds remaining. A free throw by John Culbertson nailed the lid shut with 7.6 seconds remaining. A great come from behind Lake victory.
