Lake over Springs 75-65

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Jan 20, 2017 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Jan 20, 2017: Clear Lake over Clear Springs 75-65

In another in a long line of nail biters, Lake prevailed over a scrappy Clear Springs team that made it tough to feel comfortable. Lake was up by 11 at the half but went  cold in the third quarter and enabled the Chargers to close the gap. The lead changed 7 times in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter before Lake regained the lead and held it.

Ajare Sanni had 17 points in the first half and 23 in the second (13 of 16 from the line); Riley Abercrombie had 13 in the first half but none in the second (sounds similar to the Creek game, doesn't it?).

Lake is now 18-7, 5-2. Lake plays Alvin at home Tuesday.

In other games Dickinson's freshman phenom Tramon Mark exploded for 25 in the second half to defeat Clear Brook 60-58.

Reflections on the 2016-17 Season so far

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Jan 18, 2017 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

This season is certainly not for the faint of heart. Everyone knew District 24-6A would be balanced this season. Boy, it is ever! On any given night 7 of the 8 teams in the district are capable of beating their opponent. The district overall is the strongest I can remember since the mid-1990's. This makes for some exciting basketball games and Lake fans have had more than their share already this season. With the second round about to be underway we can expect more of the same. By the way, of Lake's seven district games played so far, six have been decided late in the fourth quarter.

For the entire season, Lake has lost 7 games by a total of 23 points. That's an average deficit of 3.3 points per game. Lake's largest loss was by 5 points. Lake fans are certainly getting their money's worth. This season could end up being the best overall season of district play in the history of District 24.

Lake 60 at Creek 54 (1-17-17)

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Jan 14, 2017 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Jan 16, 2017. Clear Lake 60 at Clear Creek 54

When two teams are so well coached and so well prepared you know it is going to be special. This game was yet another exciting contest between two long time district rivals. The lead changed so many times I lost count. The game was tied at least a dozen times. Two well matched teams going head to head in a district game that can be described as superb high school boys basketball that goes to the wire. Lake again showed their prowess by defeating a very good Creek team in a game that could easily have gone either way.

Ajare Sanni led all scorers with 20 points (13 of 14 free throws). Riley Abercrombie had 16 in the first half and finished with 18.  Zaid, the Iceman, Harris had 10.

Lake is 17-7, 4-2 in district. One more game and the first half of district play will be completed.

Lake 59 at Friendswood 54

Jan. 13, 2017. Clear Lake 59 at Friendswood 54

Well, Friday the thirteenth did not prove to be unlucky for the Falcons as they won another fierce battle on the hardwood. After being down by 10 at the half, the Mustangs scratched and clawed their way back in the second half to give Lake a scare. The 4th quarter was very close with Lake maintaining a slight lead most of the way. Another exciting game where the outcome was not evident until the waning seconds.

It is always fun to watch two well coached, talented teams go at it.

Lake is 16-7, 3-2.

Ajare Sanni 20 points, Riley Abercrombie 12
