Feb 10, 2017. Clear Lake 76 - Clear Creek 63

It was a see saw battle until the 5:47 mark remaining in the 3rd quarter when  Lake took control and never lost it from that point. There were 47 fouls called in a tough physical contest (that's a lot) between long time rivals.

Ajare Sanni 28, Zaid Harris, in the best game of his high school career, had 25.

Clear Lake 75 - Clear Brook 57

Feb 3, 2017 Clear Lake 75 -  Clear Brook 57

In another in the string of really impressive Clear Lake victories this season, the Falcons stepped up to prove their prowess over a very good district rival Clear Brook Friday night. It was intense, thrilling high school basketball as Lake gained the lead early and increased it throughout most of the contest. By halftime Lake was up 15 points 44-29. After 3, Lake was up by 12. In the 4th quarter, the closest Brook was able to come was 10 points down when the first basket of the fourth quarter made it 48-58 at the 7:47 mark. Three minutes later Lake was up by 19.

All of the weaknesses Lake had demonstrated in the first round matchup against Brook were mostly eliminated in tonight's game. Lake shot the ball much better and played much better defense. Lake's Ajare Sanni had a very solid performance tallying 37 points. Riley Abercrombie poured in 21 and 8 rebounds.  Zaid Harris contributed 10 with his usual rock solid play.

It is difficult to beat a good team three times. In the CCISD Tournament Championship game, Lake lost to Brook by 3 points. The second time these two teams met it was Brook by 4. But in tonight's matchup Lake prevailed by 18 points. Not enough can be said about how well the Lake team was prepared to play this game.

Lake and Brook are now tied for second place in the district (8-3). In first round play Lake lost to Brook 55-51. With this 18 point Lake victory, Lake is in second but must keep winning. FYI: Brook plays at Dickinson on Feb 14.

Clear Lake is now  21-8, 8-3. Lake plays at home next week against Friendswood and Creek.
