Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017 HEB Classic Tournament Championship Game

Clear Lake recovered from a lackluster first half to defeat Shertz Clemens 80-68 to win the tournament championship. Ajare Sanni had 22 points. Riley Abercrombie scored 19, Zaid Harris (tournament MVP) had 15, and Jere Maldonado (All Tournament) had 10. In the first half Lake missed 10 free throws while Clemens hit ten treys. It was obvious Lake had the better team but it was not obvious until 3:27 remaining in the third quarter that the Falcons were going to prove they were better. Lake outscored Clemens 29 to 16 in the third and never trailed again.

This was season game 15 (12-3 record)

Friday 6pm, Dec 8, 2017 Semifinals

In what some believed to be the real championship game, Clear Lake defeated Vandergrift HS by a score of  65-53. Vandergrift boasts one of the premier sophomores in the nation, #6 nationally ranked Greg Brown (6'7"), who scored 35 of Vandegrift's 53 points. For Lake, Ajare had 26, Jere Maldonado had 18, and Zaid Harris had 10.

Shertz Clemens, (San Antonio), defeated Brazosport in the late game so Clemens will face off with Clear Lake Saturday at 4:30pm for the championship.

Game 10 of the season - Saturday, Dec. 2 Gold Division Championship

Clear Lake Falls to #1 state ranked Cypress Falls High School 62-46.

In our CCISD tournament last year Clear Lake defeated Cy Falls in the semifinals by a score of 69-64. Falls lost one other game last season on their way to claiming the 6A state championship. Falls saw the game Saturday evening as a grudge match where they could get their revenge.

In what is hoped to be the first of two meetings between these two teams, Lake was defeated by 6A defending state champions Cy Falls. Lake benefitted greatly from this contest and if the opportunity arises in the Region III playoffs, the outcome could throw a damper on Falls's plans for a repeat trip to the state tournament in San Antonio in March. Lake's leading scorer, Ajare Sanni, was once again absent from the court while he recuperates from tendonitis.  Lake's record is now 7-3.

Saturday, Gold Division Semifinal

Game 9 of the season: Clear Lake defeats North Shore 50-34

Friday, December 1, 2017

Game 8 of the season: Game 3 of CCISD Tournament - Clear Lake defeated Port Arthur Memorial 72-62. Clear Lake came out hot on Friday night as they rained treys down on Memorial. Lake nailed 11 3 pointers in the game. The Falcons scored 29 points in the first quarter and were up by 16. It was never a close game although Memorial did pull to within 9 before Lake would pull away again. Lake had significant trouble with Memorial's press until they adjusted. Brennan is ranked #5 in the state in 5A by TABC.

In the semifinals of the Gold Bracket on Saturday Lake will face North Shore at 10:30am in KFH. In the Saturday game preceding Lake's (at 9am), defending state champions Cy Falls will face San Antonio Brennan. Cy Falls is currently ranked #1 in the state in 6A.

FYI: So far this season, Lake has faced state ranked teams (top 25) in four of its first eight games and defeated three of the four.

Game 7: Game 2 of CCISD Tournament

Houston Memorial over Clear Lake in overtime 70-66. Please note: Because of the teams in our pool all finishing with 1 loss, there was a three way tie. The point differential in the Lake-Hastings game was the largest (19) so Lake  took first place in pool play and played in the Gold Bracket at 4:30 Friday. Lake's record is now 5-2

Game 6: Game 1 of CCISD Tournament

Clear Lake over Alief Hastings 50-31. 5-1 for the season.
