Creek Over Lake 74-70

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Jan 18, 2018 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Thursday, January 18, 2018 - Clear Creek 74 at Lake 70.

The rivalry between Clear Lake and Clear Creek goes back 46 years. These games are almost always exciting basketball games between two well coached, well prepared teams. Tonight's game was no different. The matchup tonight was between two superb teams vying for the top spot in District 24-6A although Dickinson might have something to say about that.

Creek outplayed Lake in every aspect of the game on both ends of the court tonight. Creek led by as much as 17 points after taking the lead and widening the gap as the game progressed. Lake's defensive weakness in the paint really hurt the cause. At the half Creek was up by 14, 38-24. With 3:40 remaining in the game Lake took the lead for the first time. The lead then changed almost a dozen times in the next 2 minutes before Creek put a stop to it.

This year's Lake team is consistently inconsistent which is not unusual on the high school level. Maddening for a coach, to be sure. Frustrating for fans, but not unusual. It was a disappointing game to watch because the fans knew Lake was a better team than they demonstrated tonight.

Ajare Sanni led all scorers with 28 points. Riley Abercrombie had 10 as did Jamail Pink. Lake is now 21-5, 4-2.
