Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Clear Lake over Clear Falls 90-53

The Clear Lake Falcons asserted themselves Tuesday night in the Falls gym by dominating Clear Falls from the opening tipoff. Missing two of their starters did not seem to hamper the Falcons as they scored 25 points in the first quarter (Jeremiah Maldonado was out due to concussion protocol and Jamail Pink has the flu).

Lake went 8 of 9 from the free throw line and hit 16 treys in the outing. Despite sitting out almost the entire fourth quarter, Ajare Sanni had 34 points. Riley Abercrombie and Zaid Harris each had 18 and Casey Davis had 11.

Lake is now 25-5, 8-2. There is now a three way tie for first place in the district due to Dickinson defeating Clear Springs tonight.

Clear Lake 74 - Dickinson 69 - Great game

Posted by Donald Wilkerson at Jan 26, 2018 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Friday, January 26, 2018 Clear Lake Defeats Dickinson 74-69 to tie for first place.

Friday night in Krueger Field House fans were treated to something very special -  A boys high school basketball game that kept fans on the edge of their seats most of the contest. Clear Lake showed what kind of team they really are to local fans who might not have seen them in Corpus or in Austin. They minimized the turnovers and Lake's passing dazzled the crowd more than once (Lake's passing was much improved when compared to the loss to Creek).

This was a game to remember. Both teams were ready for the matchup and brought their "A" game. Instead of starting out slowly, as Lake has been known to do, Lake took an early lead and was up 10-2, then 12-4 before the Gators came roaring back in the last three minutes of the first quarter. 8 of Lake's 16 first quarter points were contributed by Jamail "the silent assassin" Pink.

After one quarter it was 16-15 Lake. At the half it was 31-29 Lake. Still very close. After three, it was Lake 50, Dickinson 49. It doesn't get much closer than that. A strong finish by Lake and making free throws down the stretch helped them secure the victory 74-69. It was just a fantastic basketball game between two worthy opponents who had worked very hard to prepare for the contest.

Dickinson hit 11 consecutive free throws before they missed their final attempt. Dickinson's outstanding sophomore Tramon Mark (#3) led his team with 22 points and their outstanding junior guard, Quante Julien (#0) kicked in another 17. (Dickinson's three leading scorers will all be back next year).

Clear Lake's scoring was balanced with four players in double figures. Ajare Sanni led all scorers with 24 points. Despite having an opponent glued to him throughout the game, Ajare put on an impressive display of shooting and passing. At times he looked just like James Hardin. Jere Maldonado got his 15 and Jamail Pink contributed 13 with another 11 from Zaid Harris.

Lake is now 24-5 and 7-2 in district.  There is now a four way tie for first place. See the District Schedule and Scores Page on this website for District 24-6A game results.
