Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Clear Lake 88 -Clear Springs 72

In the final regular season game in District 24-6A the Clear Lake Falcons claimed the district championship outright with an impressive victory over Clear Springs by a score of 88-72. For those of you who know what carbon paper is, this game was a carbon copy of the first round game against Springs.  This game was close at the half 35-33, Lake up by 2. The Falcons took charge immediately in the second half and put on an impressive offensive display scoring 53 points in the half. Ajare Sanni led all scorers with 29. Riley Abercrombie had 20 and Casey Davis had 19. Seven players scored. The Lake talent off the bench continues to impress the crowd.

When you check out the Playoff information on this website (General Information) you will know our first place Falcons will face the 4th place team in District 23. In that district, as a consequence of Alief Hastings losing and George Ranch winning tonight, they are tied for 4th place so there will be a tie breaker game Friday night to determine 4th place. Lake will play the winner of that game. We will not know who or where until late Friday night so the time and place will be posted on this website Saturday. In addition, a bracket showing all the first round matchups in our region (III) will be posted.

A couple of words about the level of varsity competition in our district this year. DAMN TOUGH. Our district had at least 4 teams that could beat any other team in the district on a given night. Overall, the level of competition this season was among the highest I have seen in almost two decades. So, winning the district championship this year is an outstanding accomplishment. As a consequence, our team is well seasoned and very ready for the playoffs. In addition, our team seems to be peaking at exactly the right time so many Falcon followers are eagerly awaiting the playoffs.

By the way, our Freshman A Team finished the season as District Champs by only losing 1 game all season. Not 1 district game ---1 game all season. Remarkable.  Way to Go guys!!! Only the varsity goes into the playoffs after the regular season is completed. Shucks! I would really like to see our freshmen play some more games right away.

For those who might not understand how the playoffs are set up, go to the "General Information" Section (click on menu item above) and choose "Region III Playoff General Information". Here you will find a complete explanation of the basketball playoff scheme for Texas 6A schools. The playoffs will start one week after the Lake-Springs game.

Clear Lake is now 29-5, 12-2.
