Recap of 2018 Cedar Park (Leander ISD) Tournament (tournament number 2)
Game 1 Clear Lake 63 - Lake Highlands 61
Just like last year in the finals of this tournament, Lake found a worthy opponent in the Lake Highland Wildcats. Lake trailed almost the entire game but went ahead with just over a minute remaining when Casey Davis hit a trey to put Lake up 61-59. JaJa Sanni iced the game with free throws. Lake is now 16-3 for the season.
JaJa Sanni 20 pts., John Argue 14, Casey Davis 10
Game 2: Vandergrift 63 - Clear Lake 61
Lake falls to Vandy on a trey with less than 5 seconds remaining. Vandy's record was 6-12 coming in to this game. Lake was 16-3.
JaJa Sanni 20 pts., John Argue 14, Casey Davis 10.
Game 3: Clear Lake 87 - Eastside (Austin) 18
John Argue 14, Alex Lee 10, JaJa Sanni 10.
13 Lake players scored in this game.
Game 4: Cedar Park 68 - Clear Lake 61
There was a 3 way tie in the pool Lake was in (Pool A). In the head-to-head tie breaker, Lake was 2nd. Lake Highlands was first, and Vandergrift was 3rd. So Lake played the 2nd place team from Pool B, Cedar Park. Lake players were tired, shot the ball poorly and could barely spell Free Throw. Lake was 15 of 26 from the line (14 attempts by John Argue). It is difficult to win when 11 free throws are missed no matter how hard the team plays.
There were 5 good teams out of 8 total in this tournament. Lake got 4th place. Lake Highlands (which Lake defeated) played in the championship game but were outclassed noticeably by Austin Westside HS.
