Remind Frank Sunday That He's Old

Posted by N Frese at Jun 13, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Just wanted to let everyone know that tomorrow, #14 becomes the first 50-year-old on our roster. Please be sure to share that with him on Sunday. Some of us are a LOT younger -- I will turn 49 on Father's Day myself. Nick GMimage

Defensive Woes Allow Marlins to Take Nats 11-10

Posted by N Frese at Jun 11, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Well, not our best effort on this Sunday morn. Helped by six Senator miscues, the Moorestown Marlins were able to earn an 11-10 decision in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Nats showed some spunk in staging several comebacks, but they also continued to shoot themselves in the foot with key defensive mistakes. This is simply another June game that we need to put behind us, which I know we can do. Next week, we come HOME (believe it or not) for a game vs The Delco Astros. I already know we will be missing Ken Bevenour, Jim Toth and Bobby Wood. Hopefully the rest of the troops can make it. Bill Alvaro will start Sunday if he can make it, but even if he does, he will be leaving right away. Then John DiPietro has the baseball. The tentative lineup: 1. Alessandrini-CF
2. Lawrence-SS
3. D. Amos-LF
4. Izzi-1B
5. Reader-C
6. Frese-EH
7. Kulikowski-RF
8. Rose-3B
9. R. Amos-EH
10. DiPietro/Michalski (A-B)
11. Trotman-2B

Senators Sweep Twin Bill From A's, Move to 5-1

Posted by N Frese at Jun 4, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Senators got excellent pitching from Bill Alvaro, Frank Rose, and Gene Michalski, and some timely offense from Ken Bevenour and Jim Toth as they swept past the Marlton Athletics by scores of 9-5 and 8-0 at Notre Dame High School. Though they haven't played the best of baseball on a weekly basis, the Senators 2006 record stands at an impressive 5-1. The Senators were without Dale Amos, John DiPietro and Jim McAllister, and got even more short-handed when Rich Kulikowski and Rick Amos both suffered muscle pulls in the second game. But the Nats hit and fielded enough to complete the sweep. Next week, the Senators travel back to Wesley Bishop for a revenge game against the Moorestown Marlins, who edged the Nats by a single run a few weeks ago in an 8-inning contest shortened by the time limit. John DiPietro will take the hill. I already know Miles Reader will not be there, but I am expecting everyone else -- health permitting, of course. Here is the tentative lineup, subject to change based upon player availability and the whims of the manager: 1. Alessandrini-CF
2. Lawrence-SS
3. D. Amos-LF
4. Izzi-1B
5. Bevenour-RF
6. McAlliser-3B
7. Toth-EH
8. Frese-EH
9. R. Amos-C
10. Rose-EH
11. Trotman-2B
We hit Thursday night at 6:15 at varsity cage.

Senators Get Past Angels Behind Alvaro, D. Amos

Posted by N Frese at May 21, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Bill Alvaro hung in through seven tough innings and 125 pitches and Dale Amos, collected two doubles, two walks, three steals, and two RBI as the Senators handled the Voorhees Angels by a 7-4 tally. Gene Michalski pitched the scoreless eighth to notch a save. It wasn't the purtiest of wins, but a win's a win's a win, I guess. The Senators will take a week off for the Memorial Day holiday and then resume play on June 4 in a twin-bill at Notre Dame Field against the newcomers, the Marlton Athletics. This is an 8:00 AM start. Pitching and lineups will be announced as we get closer to the date. If anyone is NOT making that doubleheader, please let me know. We will NOT have BP this Thursday, but will resume the following Thursday, June 1. The makeup game vs. Red Sox for June 8 remains tentative at this writing.imageimage

DiPietro Carries Senators Over Tigers 3-2

Posted by N Frese at May 14, 2006 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
A nice win Sunday, as John DiPietro hurled a complete-game 8-hitter to lead the Nats over the tough Tabernacle Tigers 3-2. This is no small feat against an offense as formidable and deep as that of the Tigers. Rookie Rick Amos had his best day as a Senator, collecting three hits. And consecutive 0-2 singles by Mark Alessandrini, Chris Lawrence and Frank Izzi in the first set the tone for the game. The Senators defense was also steady, as no errors were committed. Next up, a visit to Bob Meyer Field for a battle against Phil Ball's 2-1 Voorhees Angels. Bill Alvaro is expected to have the starting nod for the Nats. Tentative lineup: 1. Alessandrini-CF
2. Lawrence-SS
3. D. Amos-LF
4. Izzi-1B
5. Bevenour-3B
6. Reader-C/OF
7. Frese-EH
8. Kulikowski-EH/OF
9. R. Amos-EH/C
10. Trotman-2B
11. Wood-RF
