CoBALTS Dodge Bullet

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jun 29, 2001 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
After jumping out to a 7-0 lead on the Cardinals, the CoBALTS fell asleep. We woke up to a 12-8 deficit going into the sixth but in time to score 8 runs in the last inning for a 17-12 win. T.R. O'Brien left his crying kids on the sideline to shut down the Cardinals for 2 2/3 innings and got the Win. Barry Martin and Lit'l 'Balt Tim Klanke (2) went large for the CoBALTS. Reigning MVP Bobby Crooks took one for the team when he sacrificed his ailing arm to give T.R. time to warm up. Bob knew he'd be taking a chance on being "done" for the year, but he realized the 'Balts needed him and gave us what he had. The unusually poor defense kept him on the hill far too long, and he finally had to remove himself from the game. Hopefully, with a few weeks rest, Bob can return healthy, as he is the most versatile player we have. Up next: Cheviot and the 'Toppers!

CoBALTS Lose a Tough One

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jun 21, 2001 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Leading 5-2 with two outs in the top of the 7th inning, the CoBALTS couldn't hold the lead as Tim's Team gets revenge for an earlier 3-0 loss. The CobALTS fought back in the bottom of the inning: Nick Fritsch lead off with a walk and Barry Martin followed with a frozen rope off the left-center field wall. Two perfect relays nailed the speedy Nick at the plate. Barry's shot missed being a "walk-off" dinger by 14 inches. Charlie Dieruf gets the first loss. A dejected Brad Parker was heard after the game as saying, "Beers at Pelican Reef?"

CoBALTS Beat Stogies 3-2

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jun 14, 2001 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
A bottom of the 7th suicide squeeze by Tim Klanke scored Todd Hiler (3-3, 2runs) to lift the CoBALTS over the Blue Note Stogies. Overcoming 5 fielding errors and a few baserunning blunders, the CoBALTS break a personal four game jinx against the Blue Note Stogies. Shannon Morgan was again dominating going all 7 with no earned runs. The malted beverages after the game tasted oh-so-sweet!

Down Goes Mick

Posted by Mark Dietz at Jun 13, 2001 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Mick Pardee, starting his first game of the season Wednesday, left the game in the 1st inning after experiencing extreme shoulder pain. Team doctor, Brad Parker, diagnosed the problem on the field and gave this commentary: "He's screwed!" Pardee vows to return quickly and said he was going to the Diesel House of Meds to continue on with his career. More, as the story develops.
