Summer 2005 News and Notes

School's out for the 2004-2005 school year, but things are just heating up for the 2005 De La Salle football season. - The 25th Annual Eastside Football Camp starts this Sunday, June 26th and goes until Wednesday, June 29th. The AM session, for football players entering grades 4-6, begins at 8 AM and goes until 11:15 AM. The PM session, for football players entering grades 7-9, begins at 12:15 and goes until 3:30. If you would like to sign up your son(s), you can do so at the door. The cost is $100. A reminder to incoming DLS freshman football players, this camp is mandatory! Please arrive at the camp early to get fitted for shoes and receive other important information for the 2005 season. - The 3rd Annual Offense/Defense Technique Camp for players entering grades 10-12 will begin on Sunday, June 26th and go until Wednesday, June 29th. This is a mandatory camp for JV and Varsity DLS football players. The camp begins each at 4 PM and goes until 6:30 PM. Cost is $50. Players can sign up at the door. - The Varsity De La Salle football schedule has finally been finalized, as have the JV and Freshmen football schedules and will be posted soon. - The De La Salle Varsity football team will be playing U of D Jesuit at FORD FIELD on Sunday, September 18th. Game time is at 6 PM. This game is a part of the Catholic League Football Showcase, which also includes Brother Rice vs. Catholic Central (1 PM) and Orchard Lake St. Mary's vs. Divine Child (3:30 PM). - The first day of football practice will be August 8th, Purple and Gold Day on August 13th, and the 4-way scrimmage for all three levels at South Lyon on August 18th. More information regarding these events will be posted on the website as soon as it is available. - The first game of the year will be August 26th against Detroit Pershing at the Warren Community Center. With the season just around the corner, everyone is expecting the entire program (the Freshmen, JV, and Varsity football teams) to have a very successful year. It's only a more couple months until the Pilots take the field, so until then, good luck and GO PILOTS!!!

In case you missed the Parent/Player meeting on May 22nd, don't worry. Just call either the De La Salle Athletic Office (586-778-2207, ext. 229) or call Coach Paul Verska (586-412-1212) and ask for the packet of information given out at the Parent/Player Meeting.

Even though it's May, the 2005 football season is just around the corner and the De La Salle Pilots, led by Head Coach Paul Verska, are preparing hard for the season. - On Sunday, May 22nd, a Player/Parent meeting will be held in the De La Salle gym from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. This meeting is for parents and players from all levels and this meeting will cover important information, such as the summer weight room schedule, practice, scrimmage, and game schedules, team football shoes (sizing and purchase), meeting the coaching staff, and the sizing and purchase of DLS football apparel. THIS MEETING IS FOR PLAYERS AND PARENTS FROM ALL LEVELS: FRESHMEN, JV, and VARSITY. Please make sure you attend.

- Paul Verska and the De La Salle football staff will be holding it's 3rd Annual Offense/Defense Technique School from June 26th - June 29th at De La Salle High School. The cost of the camp is $50 and this is a non-contact camp.

The purpose of the Offense/Defense Technique School is to teach and train high school football players the proper techniques and fundamentals of high school. Participants of the Technique School are required to bring cleats, sneakers, a helmet, as well as workout clothes to each session, which will take place from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM.

All De La Salle football players going into grades 10 to 12 are highly encouraged to attend the camp.

- The 25th Annual Eastside Metro Instructional Football Camp will be held on June 26th to June 29th at De La Salle High School. Information about the camp is posted on this website. - The 2005 Varsity Football schedule has been released with a couple of minor revisions still to be made. The JV and Freshmen football schedule will be posted as soon as it is available. - The 2005 De La Salle Football Coaching staff is almost finalized as well and will be posted as soon as possible. - De La Salle football players are highly encouraged to attend the Michigan Football Technique Camp held from June 19th to June 23rd at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. For more information, please contact Coach Paul Verska. The 2005 De La Salle football season promises to be a very successful one and with all players and coaches involved working hard towards the goal of winning a championship and bringing pride and honor to the program and the school. 2005 De La Salle Football Schedule

Even though it's just May, De La Salle football is just around the corner and with the anticipation of the new season comes with it the announcement of the 2005 football schedule. The 2005 season starts Friday, August 26th with a home game for the 3rd straight year against the Doughboys of Detroit Pershing who are facing the Pilots for the third time ever. The next week, Friday, September 2nd, De La Salle travels to Riverview Gabriel Richard High School to take on Riverview Gabriel Richard, an opponent De La Salle has not played since 1982. Week 3, Friday, September 9th, sees a team from across the border in La Salle (Ont.) Sandwich taking on the Pilots for the second straight year. The next week, Sunday, September 18th, will find De La Salle playing its first league game, this one against U of D Jesuit at a TBA location. The following week, Saturday, September 24th, we see the Pilots travel to Orchard Lake to take on Orchard Lake St. Mary's. Homecoming this year will be against the newest member of the Central Division as Divine Child comes into town to play the Pilots for Week 6 on Friday, September 30th. The Pilots go back on the road in Week 7 when they take on Brother Rice on Saturday, October 8th at a field to be determined. The league season ends the following week when the Shamrocks of Novi Catholic Central on Friday, October 14th at the Warren Community Center. The Week 9 game will see the Pilots either with crossover game Friday, October 21st OR at Ford Field for a Prep Bowl game on Saturday, October 22nd. Note: All De La Salle home games this year will be at the Warren Community Center (Old Warren High) between 13 and 14 Mile Road, between Mound and Ryan Road and all home games will start at 7:00 pm. 2005 De La Salle Football Schedule August 26th: Detroit Pershing @ Home, 7:00 PM September 2nd: @ Riverview Gabriel Richard, 7:30 PM September 9th: La Salle (Ont.) March 2005: News and Notes

Well, it's March and spring sports are underway, but De La Salle football is not far behind as pre-season practices begin August 8th and the first game is on August 25th (tentative) against Detroit Pershing, the opening game opponent for both the 2003 and 2004 seasons. * The 2005 coaches roster will be posted as soon as it is finalized by Coach Paul Verska. * Home games will again be at the Warren Community Center, home for the De La Salle football team since 2003. * Weight lifting times for over Spring Break are 9 AM to 10:30 AM. Weight lifting will take place on March 25th (Friday), March 28th (Monday), March 30th (Wednesday), and April 1st (Friday). * Spring weight lifting begins right after Spring Break on April 4th continuing until June 13th. Again, this begins at 6 am, every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. On raffle holidays, alternative times will be announced by the coaches. * Summer weight lifting beings June 20th and goes until August 5th. Times for the summer weight lifting is to be determined. * Team conditioning will take place on July 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th, as well as on August 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. The conditioning will take place at De La Salle and will occur from 7 PM to 8:30 PM. The team conditioning is MANDATORY for Varsity Football players. * Some other dates to keep in mind: - Once again, Coach Verska will be taking football players from all levels to the Michigan Football Camp, which takes place from June 19th to June 23rd. As it has been in the past, a bus will leave De La Salle at around 6:30 AM taking the players to Ann Arbor and returning them to De La Salle at approximately 5:00 PM. More information will be given out at the Spring Football Meeting. - The 25th Annual Eastside Football Camp is taking place at De La Salle from June 26th to June 30th. - Again, there will be 7 on 7 competitions during the months of June and July. More information will be posted as it is available. - The first day of practice for all levels of the De La Salle football team is August 8th, with the pre-season scrimmage for all team at South Lyon on August 18th.
