Warriors Down Pilots 17-7
For the second straight year, De La Salle headed into the Brother Rice game undefeated. Unfortunately, for the second straight year, the Pilots came out of the game with a loss, this time a 17-7 decision against Brother Rice at Southfield Lathrup. DLS is now 6-1 on the year, 3-1 in the Central Division.
It was a fierce defensive struggle in the first half, as evidenced by the 10 total points scored by both teams in the half. Brother Rice jumped out on top in the first quarter on a 29 yard Ryan Kelly field goal which capped off a 4 play, 5 yard drive after Brother Rice recoved a blocked punt at the DLS 17 yard line. In the second quarter, DLS scored their only touchdown of the game on a one yard run by Chad O'Shell, his 19th of the year. The drive was set up by a short Brother Rice punt to the BR 36 yard line. From there, DLS went 36 yards in seven plays, highlighted by a Josh Sinagoga 21 yard run and a roughing the passer penalty on Brother Rice. DLS had a chance to take a 10-3 into halftime, but missed a 27 yard field goal as time expired.
In the second half, it was all Brother Rice, as the Warriors outgained the Pilots 134 yards to 48 yards and outscored the Pilots by 14 points. Rice scored once in the third quarter on a five play, 17 yard drive set up by a shanked DLS punt and again in the fourth quarter as MSU-bound Caulton Ray took the pitch and outran the DLS defense 34 yards with 2:13 left in the fourth quarter to seal the game and sending the Pilots home with their first loss of the season.
Now the attention turns to Orchard Lake St. Mary's where there is a lot on the line for both teams: whoever wins the game wins a share of the CHSL Central Division and spot in the CHSL A-B Championship game at the Prep Bowl on October 20th. The loser of this game will most likely play Catholic Central in the Prep Bowl Consolation Game.
DLS will play at Orchard Lake St. Mary's on Saturday, October 13th at 1:00 PM. Directions to OLSM can be found under 'Locations' on the website.
So until next week, Good Luck and GO PILOTS!!!
