In a game anticipated to be a battle to the finish, the De La Salle Pilots scored early and often and came away with 37-7 win over Flint Carman-Ainsworth in Flint. The win puts DLS at 2-0 for the year. The Pilots started the scoring early in the first quarter when senior fullback Jimmy Berezik raced in from 8 yard out. The drive was highlighted by junior slotback Chad O'Shell's 29 yard run down to the FCA 8 yard line. After missing a 38 yard field goal on their second drive of the game, the Pilots came back and capped off a 6 play, 36 yard drive with a Chad O'Shell 6 yard touchdown run to complete the first quarter scoring at 13-0 in favor of the Pilots. The second quarter was more of the same as De La Salle held FCA's offense in check, then proceded to go on a 9 play, 69 yard drive which ended in Chad O'Shell taking it to the house again, scoring from 21 yards out and to give the Pilots a 21-0 lead. Later in the second quarter, the Pilots finished a 7 play, 56 yard drive when senior quarterback Brian Lewis connected with senior wideout Don Fowler from 36 yard out to put De La Salle 28-0. But DLS wasn't finished yet - after sophomore defensive back Johnny Martinez intercepted a FCA pass and brought it back to the FCA 27 yard line, the Pilots went down to the FCA 18 yard line before senior Shane Torzy kicked a 35 yard field goal to put the Pilots up 31-0 with over a minute to go in the first half. FCA did drive down to the DLS 7 yard line, but was stopped as the halftime buzzer sounded to leave the score 31-0, DLS at half. In the second half, FCA kicked off to the Pilots and senior Jimmy Berezik made the Cavaliers pay, taking the kickoff 78 yards for the touchdown, making the score 37-0 and effectively ending the game. FCA's only score came with 6 second left in the game, but as Dick Vitale would say, "It's all academic, baby!"
