Eaglets Put Down Pilots 28-13
Orchard Lake St. Mary's, behind a strong running attack, beat De La Salle last Saturday afternoon 28-13, dropping DLS to 6-2 on the season, 3-2 in league play.
The scoring started off in the first quarter as OLSM took advantage of a Josh Sinagoga fumble at the DLS 11 yard line, as OLSM QB Robert Bolden threw a 9 yard strike to Jason Semmes to give OLSM the 7-0 lead. But the Pilots responded, going 70 yards in five plays, culminated by Kyle Torzy's 35 yard touchdown run, tying the game at 7. But OLSM responded, going 80 yards in 11 plays, aided by a highly questionable pass interference call, with Robert Bolden throwing his second touchdown pass of the day, this one to Justin Semmes to give OLSM a 14-7 lead at halftime.
In the second half, it was more of the same for the Eaglets, with more questionable calls aiding OLSM. After being forced to punt on their first possession, OLSM punted the ball, but collided with the DLS returnman before he could get the ball. Somehow along the way, OLSM recovered the ball at the DLS 43 and drove to the DLS 15 yard line before missing a field goal. After DLS went three-and-out, OLSM took over at their own 37 yard line. The Eaglets drove 63 yards in 6 plays, again aided by a questionable penalty, this one a late hit on the Pilots, before Dominque White scored from 21 yards out to give OLSM a 21-7 lead. But DLS quickly responded, going 70 yards in five plays, again culminated with a Kyle Torzy touchdown run, this one of 28 yards to cut the OLSM lead to 21-13. But OLSM sealed the game with a 16 play, 75 yard drive which ended with a Jason Semmes 1 yard run, giving a 28-13 and effectively ending the game.
Now the attention turns to Catholic Central where there is a lot on the line for both teams: whoever wins the game will definately have the momentum entering the state playoffs.
DLS will play at Catholic Central on Saturday, October 20th at 1:00 PM at Ford Field. Directions to Ford Field can be found under 'Locations' on the website. Tickets at the gate will be $8.00
