Before today's game, all the coaches were worried about the team's intensity and focus as De La Salle faced Alpena, a team that had lost 20 straight games. Those questions were answered as the varsity football team beat the Wildcats Saturday 31-6. The varsity win capped off a program sweep against Alpena. (The freshmen won their game 27-8 and the JV slugged it out to a 20-12 win. On the first drive of the game, on fourth and four, Joe Thomas took the option around right end and scored the game's first points on a 30 yard run. Joe ended up running for two touchdowns and passing a 18-yard TD to Erik Rouls at the end of the first half. Joe Novak scored the other touchdown from 6 yards out. Joe also rushed for 89 yards on 8 carries. On defense, the Pilots grounded Alpena's wide-open attack, only yielding Alpena's lone score with 2 seconds left in the game. The defense also intercepted Alpena QB Nate Smart twice. (Mario Hines & Matt Lewis). The Pilots play Bishop Gallagher next on Friday, August 31st @ 7:00 pm. The game is at Harper Woods Notre Dame High School. Gallagher lost their opening game to Notre Dame Prep 27-20. In the upcoming week, the coaches will go over what worked and what didn't work and stress to the team to play mistake-free (disciplined) football. Let's keep it going La Salle against Gallagher next Friday and keep the propellor. Good luck and Go Pilots!!! imageimage
