Reds Continue Winning Streak!

Posted by Ray Flaherty at May 7, 2001 2:13PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Reds continued their winning streak, defeating the Sandown Devil Rays 7-1 in Hampstead on Saturday May 5th. Matt Willey threw all 6 innings, walking only one batter. He also contributed a hit and an RBI. Matt Novak continued to pound the ball with a standup double to left center. Scott Randall made a diving, two feet off the ground, arm outstretched catch in left center to rob the Devil Rays of a sure game-tying double with two in scoring position to end the inning. This play took the wind out of the Devil Rays' sails and helped boost the Reds to finish strong. "That was the best catch I have ever seen in Little League", said Reds coach Steve Clark. The Reds have a travel day on Tuesday and face the A's on Thursday afternoon. Come on down and watch some great baseball!

Reds Go To 2 and 0!

Posted by Ray Flaherty at May 4, 2001 2:16AM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Another slugfest by the Reds offense led the team to its second victory of the young season. Steve Clark blasted a first inning drive off the left field fence and answered again in the 5th with a home run over the right field fence. Matt Novak dented the fence as well, missing the top of the high wall in left center by inches. Scott Randall went deep during two of his visits to the plate. Again, strong pitching performances were seen from the trio of Steven Clark, Mike Carace and Mike Keenan. Steve K'd 8 batters and gave up only one hit, a perfect bunt laid down by 9-year old Brandon Bell. Steve Clark made a diving catch into short left field robbing the Blue Jays of a critical hit in the 5th inning, followed by Mike Carace making an impossible play behind second base coupled with a Nomaresque throw to first for the out. The Reds are off to a strong start as they prepare to host the Sandown Devil Rays on Saturday May 5th at high noon. See you there!
