Congratulations To The Jags Varsity Coaches

Posted by Dave Rea at Nov 14, 2008 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Congratulations to Jags coaches Paul Fowler and Mike Arena on their very successful 2008 season. They played 7 regular season games, 3 tournament games at Medina and 3 playoff games for a total of 13. That's the first time a Buckeye team has played that many games. Last season the Jets played 11, and were the first team to win 10 games. The Jags posted a 12-1 record this season. That's a pretty good indication of our Varsity teams success over the last 2 years.

Paul was in his 2nd season with the Varsity and Mike was in his first year. They both have indicated that they will return for the 2009 season and take another crack at a championship run. The pictures above and below are from the Jaguars Award Banquet held on November 12th at Buckeye High School.

The Brunswick Jets and the Jaguars hooked up Saturday Night at Steingass Field at Buckeye High School for the 2008 Championship game. The Jets won it, shutting out the Jaguars 21-0. It was the Jags only loss of the season as they finished with a 9-1 League record and a 12-1 overall record. The Jets kept their record unblemished at 10-0.

The Jags kept the ball most of the 1st half and finally surrendered a touchdown to the Jets with less than 2 minutes to go and the teams went to intermission with the Jags trailing 7-0. In the second half the Jags could not get the offense untracked and the Jets added two more scores to make it 21-0.

Despite that loss the Varsity Squad had a very successful season, becoming the first BYFA team to win 12 games in one season, and they, along with our Jets, made the first ever tournament appearances by participating in the Medina Kickoff Classic where they won all 3 of the games they played. We congratulate the Jets on their Championship, and we also congratulate the Jaguars on their 2008 Season.

2008 Golden Jag Award

Posted by Dave Rea at Oct 29, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Golden Jag Award for 2008 went to Alex Stanley. Alex has played for the Jaguars the last 3 seasons, all of them on Varsity. During those seasons he had represented Heart, Pride and Discipline. Those qualites are the cornerstone of Jaguar Football and the basis for the awarding of the Golden Jag Award.

Alex's play on the field, both during practices and games contributed to the Jaguars making the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive season and going to the Championship Game. He was the team leader of this year's squad. Last season Alex was awarded the Iron Jag Award, making him the first Jaguar to get both awards. Congratulations Alex Jaguar Football is proud of you!

Update: See Alex's 2007 Iron Jag Write Up Above.

Posted by Dave Rea at Oct 29, 2008 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Iron Jag was handed out for the 3rd time in 2008, it was first handed out in the 2004 season. This award is similar to the Golden Jag but puts the emphasis on Heart, Toughness, Intensity, and Desire.

This years's recipient is Zach Diaz. Zach has been with the Jags since he started in Flag during the 2003 season. This is his second year at the Varsity level and he personifies all those qualities that the award recognizes. His play on the field both during practices and games has contributed to the Jaguars posting another successful season in 2008.

Congratulations Zach Jaguar Football is proud of you!

Update: Zach played 4 season with the Bucks. The 2013 Season was his senior year and he will graduate in the spring of 2014. Zach had a great senior season with the Bucks playing both Offensive Tackle and Linebacker and helping lead them to a 6-4 regular season and a fifth appearance in the OHSAA State Playoffs against Clyde. From his Linebacker position he had 11 solo tackles, 32 Assists, 6 Tackles for a Loss and 2 Sacks. He was named 2nd Team All Patriot Conference at OT and was awarded the 'Iron Antler' at the Bucks season ending Award Ceremony.
