2005 Golden Jag Award

Posted by Dave Rea at Oct 25, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The Golden Jag Award for 2005 is a co-award between two players since the coaches couldn't decide on just one. The first recipient is T.J. Hugney who is a 6th year player and anchored the offensive line this season. The Jags had only 6 returners from the 2004 squad and his line play was needed. He also got into the back field to run the ball when the Jags were bogged down. His teammates refer to him as "Freight Train" when the he enters the backfield.

T.J. started with the Jags Flag in 2000 and then played with the JV in 2001 and 2002. He has been a Varsity player for the last 3 seasons and is one of the 6 year players that we have had come through the last couple seasons. Congratulations T.J., the Jags are proud of you!

Update: T.J. played with the Bucks from 2007-2010, he graduated in 2011. He picked up 2nd Team Defensive honors on the All Patriot Athletic Conference for the 2010 Season. T.J. is attending Lorain Community College and working at Cleveland Pick A Part.

Posted by Dave Rea at Jul 29, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Mike Arena was the receipient of the 1999 Golden Jag Award. He played on the Jaguar JV from 1996-1998, and the BYF Championship Squad of 1999.

Mike showed true dedication to the team, as he battled to make the weight limit all year long, working hard in practice and games, and demostrating heart, pride, and discipline that is the base for Jaguar Football.  His four years as a Jaguar came to fruition when the Jags won the 1999 BYF Championship by defeating the Chargers 26-6.

Update: Mike played with the Bucks from 2002-2005. In that time fram the Bucks appeared in the State Playoffs 3 times and in 2005 they went a perfect 10-0 the only undefeated season in Buckeye History. He picked up an Honorable Mention to the All Inland District Team as a Defensive Lineman.

Mike helped coach the Jags Flag team in 2000 and 2001 while he was still in school. He then returned to coach the Jaguars Varsity Squad's Defense in 2008 & 2009. During that period they went 24-1 and posted a 12-0 season in 2009 while winning the Varsity Division Championship in the Medina Kick Off Classic and the BDYF/BYFA Varsity Division Championship. His defense allowed 78 points in those 25 games while posting 17 shutouts. He also became the first Jaguar to win a championship as a player and a coach.

In 2011 Mike coached the Jags Defense again as the made the playoffs for the 5th time in a row and reached the Championship game for the 4th consecutive season. They finished Runner Up to the Brunswick Browns. Mike returned for a 5th Season with the Jags in 2012. In September of 2012 Mike became the Head Coach of the Jaguars and completed his first full season at the helm in 2013.

2000 Golden Jag Award

Posted by Dave Rea at Jul 29, 2007 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Drew Megrey was the recipient of the 2000 Golden Jag Award. Drew was the starting QB for both of the Championship teams in 1999 and 2000.

He was the on field leader of those teams and demonstrated plenty of effort, dedication and pride during those 2 seasons. He played only in those two seasons, but he made the most of it.

Update: Drew played with the Bucks from 2002-2005. He went to 3 OHSAA State playoff games in those 3 years. Ironically Drew was switched to center in high school and was a good one. He was on the 2005 team that went undefeated and was given Honorable Mention as an Offensive Lineman on the All Inland District Team at the end of that season.

He graduated from the University of Toledo in 2010 and coached youth football in the Medina Bees Youth Football organization during the fall of 2010. Drew was an honorary Jaguars Captain at the 2010 Championship Game.
