Nationals denounce Ephederine use

Posted by Steve Elliott at Feb 21, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Citing a scathing West Allis Star expose and the recent death of a Baltimore Oriole pitching prospect, the Nationals Board of Directors announced Friday that Ephederine would no longer be provided to players. Gatorade, beer, and an occasional shot of Beam will remain on the players'training table. Ephederine use has been linked to the deaths of several professional athletes. Those predisposed to obesity or heart trouble are especially at risk. Thursday, the West Allis Star reported that West Allis was a hot bed for obese people, exceeding the national average by 36%. "Look, said general manager Steve Elliott, we've got all the factors in place for a disaster. We've got fat ballplayers who lack heart and are always looking for a jump start to gain an edge or dump some pork. We can't look the other way." One unnamed player saw it differently. "When I joined the team I was 6'1, 170lbs, lean and mean. Two seasons later I'm 5'9, 225. There's pressure every day to rise to level of past Nationals like Jeff "Big Daddy" Reeves. His exploits with the fork and knife are the stuff of legend. Poultry and foul to this day jump from the spit into the fire when he enters a room. While Elliott holds us to that standard in one breath, there's counterpressure to avoid the indignity of being Fatman of the Year. I've seen what that dishonor can do to a guy's self image and game...terrible. Ephederine is the only way I can be a proud, fat, slob and still be able to shed pounds quickly before the Fatman measurements are taken." We will continue to follow this story as it develops.

Boys 2 Men; One Down, Two to Go

#1 gets it done. Jimmy D. got himself hitched on Feb 12 in a private ceremony. When asked why, JD responded, "I could have had a big ceremony-food, drinks, naked dancers, drinks, gangsta rap, drinks, etc., but I knew that I wouldn't have been able to recover any of my costs. Most guys have friends who give generous wedding gifts. All I have are the Nationals." Enough said. #25 expects all budgeted JD wedding gift money to be donated to the squad. Cash is preferred. Please make checks payable to Steve Elliott's children's education fund. Merci, les jeune fille. Next up: VH and Franson. At least Franson has a place to live. That's right, VH, #25 is calling you out! What do Carmen and Liz know about these guys that we don't? Remember gentlemen, what happens on the road, stays on the road.

Nationals Join New League

Posted by Steve Elliott at Feb 8, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
For the first time in the team's 28 year history, the Nationals will not be playing in the Milwaukee County Minor League. Because of County budget constraints, administration of several sports leagues was dropped. Faced with the choice of entering the established Land O' Lakes league or creating a new league, players and board members decided that a new Milwaukee County league was the best option. 2003 will be the inaugural season for the Men's Amateur Wood Bat Baseball League in Milwaukee County. The league will be comprised of two divisions and the top teams from the now defunct County leagues will compete. The schedule is in the process of being created, but will include 20 regular season games followed by two rounds of best-of-three playoff series. Stay tuned to this site for updates as they occur.

New and Improved Minor League

Posted by Steve Elliott at Jan 16, 2003 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
Managers from numerous Milwaukee County baseball leagues are currently in discussions to create a new foundation and structure for the County's baseball leagues. The desire is to create better competitive balance within each league and promote the game we love so much that we pay to play. Stay posted to this site for updates. As proposals are ratified, details will be announced. For now, players are encouraged to begin their individual preparations for the upcoming season. Training has never been as important as it is now. Remember, skills are not constant; they are either improving and becoming more refined, or they are deteriorating. Just look at me for motivation!
