BC Soccer & Provincial Cup Changes

Posted by Vince Greco at Mar 15, 2017 3:20PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Folks, the snow and weather has created havoc across the Province in trying to complete our respective soccer seasons.
While we had it bad here on the Island, the Mainland definitely had it worse.

All Leagues have been involved in discussion since early January to try to stay with planned dates that were established earlier in the year. Leagues were still prepared to follow the schedule up until early March. All Leagues were doing what they could to determine Divisional Winners as well as allocating their Provincial spots to teams. Things were full steam ahead as planned as of March 1.
Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate the last couple weeks. While some Leagues were able to come up with other solutions, others were not.
Some Leagues on the Mainland had already decided to cancel their Cup Finals and others battled to get multiple games a week played. (as we did here)The end result – some Leagues are still not close enough to have decided spots by the April 3 draw date for the Provincial Cup.

BC Soccer hosted an emergency meeting last night that had the Leagues and BC Soccer Competitions Committee try to come up with an option that would better serve the members of BC Soccer.
Here are some key points:

1. The major Draw event at Fortius on April 3rd has been Cancelled.

2. All Draws for the Women’s Provincial Cups will take place on Monday April 3rd at the BC Soccer offices.
3. All Draws for the Men’s Provincial Cups will take place on Thursday April 13th at the BC Soccer offices. All teams must be declared to BC Soccer by 9:00am Thursday morning (April 13).
4. All categories of Men’s and Women’s Provincial Cups (except Women’s Classics) will begin play on the April 21 – 23 weekend.
5. May 13/14 – Provincial Cup finals for Women’s A, B, Classics & Men’s A, and U21. The semifinals for the Master’s and Men’s B will also be played this weekend at the same venue (Burnaby Lake West) UNLESS the home team is an Island team, and then this semi-final would be played on Vancouver Island.
6. The finals for the Men’s B and Masters Provincial Cup will be played on the May 27/28 weekend, date and location TBD.

I personally thank all of our VISL members!
Whether it was a player, coach, admin, scheduler or League Executive – I know everybody did their part and more to get through what has been 1 of the worst winters I have seen.
Stay tuned for additional information coming in the next week once more teams have been established in their quest to qualify for the BC Soccer Provincial Championships.

On behalf on your VISL Executive and Board of Directors – best wishes to all our members and their families for a joyous Xmas and prosperous New Year.

-The last couple weeks have been pretty tough with weather and there has been a lot of games cancelled. They have all been temporarily placed at Jan 1 & 2. Feel free to go through the list and contact opposition and reschedule if you can – if not, the League will get to it for you shortly. There is no doubt that some teams will have to play 2 times in a weekend, be prepared to see that pop up. Also, please note that Cup play will start the weekend of Feb 10/2017.
If both teams are in agreement – there is the Jan 13 weekend that is pretty wide open if you have a turf field.

-You may or may not receive your Xmas wish – but if a wish is for a transfer; please remember it must be done by Jan 15/2017. All components to a proper transfer can be done in the soccer office right up to Friday Jan 13, or online right up till the 15th.

-You may have another Xmas wish on your list – Highlanders Season Tickets ?? If so, check out their website http://highlandersfc.ca/ or go directly to purchase at: http://www.ticketrocket.co/event/details/94225/2017-highlanders-fc-season-pass-pre-sale $70.00 for adults, $50.00 for youth/students.

- Reminder that we have asked all referee’s to enforce the anchoring of goals on all the grass fields. Don’t get to a game with no anchor and then forced to forfeit. This might be a good time to make sure you have an extra set of photocopied ID Cards with another team member or 2……that will also save a forfeit.

-Last reminder – the Semi Annual / Cup Draw meeting is on Monday January 9/2017 in Club Distrikt of the Strathcona Hotel. Start time of 7 pm, feel free to show up a little early to get signed in. Outstanding fines and $ owing will also be due before the Cup Draw. If $ owed is not paid, teams will be ineligible for Cup entry.
Treasurer Keith Smith will post an up to date owe list soon, and Secretary Jake Nemec will post an agenda as well.

Thanks to all the team admin for putting in the time for the betterment of others, good luck on the restart, and again – Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
