Dear Big White Ski Club Families,

It’s that time of the year already… children are back to school, fall yard cleanup has begun then there are two more things that really make me think skiing Michael J promoting the Early Bird Season pass sale and my first trip to Fresh Air for something not bike related.

We look forward to a another great season and are very excited to build on the momentum we have been seeing over the past two years; our U12 and U14 groups are growing which bodes well for the future of the club. We are exploring and working towards developing a Ski Cross component to our program and will be working as hard as we can to make it happen.

Quick reminder that Dry Land training kicks off the week of Monday September 11th, if you have any questions regarding the dry land program please feel free to reach out to Coach Trevor for details. I fully recommend if at all possible, you try and have your athlete join for as many sessions as possible as the basic movements and exercises will help your child as the season progresses.

The Ski Swap is fast approaching, we have had several organizational meetings over the past few weeks and I am pleased to say things are looking good. You will be receiving some information from the club regarding volunteer positions, requirements, how to sign up, etc… Please sign up as early as possible to ensure you volunteer for a job you will enjoy doing.

Folks, our club is built on volunteers giving their time and last year was a true testament to just how strong of a club we have as we hosted 4 races, which is a huge demand on any club and their “human capital”. We had wonderful reviews from each event and folks from other mountains fully complimented us on how well organized the races were and how helpful all of our volunteers were. A BIG pat on the back to everyone who contributed!!

Thanks to all current and past members of our 2016/17 Executive, because of the tireless work and effort you have put into the club, we’ve had many successes and are well regarded in the ski community.

I Iook forward to seeing all of you at the Ski Swap or before.

If you have a willingness to join our volunteer pool or have ideas that will be beneficial to the club please do not hesitate to reach out to myself or any other member of our Executive.

Cheers,

John McMillan

If anyone from BWSC is interested in joining/creating a group from the club to volunteer, please email diana@bigwhiteskiclub.com

The SunRype TRi KiDS Triathlon Series is Canada’s only triathlon series just for kids. In 2017 we have 10 races on the calendar and welcome 3 to 15 year olds in a safe, fun, non-competitive race environment that combines swimming, biking and running…three sports kids love. TRi KiDS Okanagan takes place at the H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre in Kelowna on Sunday, July 16th and we are reaching out to community clubs to see if there is an interest in coming together as a group to volunteer at the event.

Learn more here>> https://www.trikids.ca/

As we enter our 9th season of TRi KiDS racing we can easily reflect on how fortunate we have been to have groups come out and volunteer for a race. TRi KiDS volunteering is a great way to engage with young athletes, and support and encourage them as they do their best on the race course. As a group, it’s a terrific team-building experience with an honorarium included.

This year we have designed a Volunteer Group Program and we sincerely hope you will join us for TRi KiDS Okanagan on July 16th.

Here are a few of the benefits:

  • Honorarium based on number of volunteers in the group (see below)
  • One point of contact: We will communicate with one member of the group to organize and confirm details
  • We will do our best to assign the group together or to a requested area
  • Draw prizes and gifts
  • Photos taken of the group which will be posted to a dedicated Volunteer page on the TRi KiDS website, TRi KiDS Facebook and Twitter pages acknowledging the group
  • “Spirit of TRi KiDS” program – end of season voting on the best volunteer group
  • Lunch, snacks and drinks provided during the race

Number of Volunteers…………………Honorarium
6 – 9…………………………………………….$125
10 – 15…………………………………………$200
15 – 20………………………………………….$300

We thought it may be fun and a great way to have a group gathering given you’re in your off-season.

We look forward to hearing back from you. We need 25-30 volunteers to make the race as successful as possible! I have also included a poster with more general information.

If group participation is not possible, would you please help us spread the word of our need for volunteers? Individuals interested can register online herehttps://www.trikids.ca/volunteer/
