Middle School Golf has concluded the best season in program history. This season included a tournament victory, and a top three finish at the HJPC Championship Golf Tournament. The Vikings middle school golfers were made up of eight golfers, from 6th thru 8th grade. Leading the Vikings were 8th graders Cole B and George P. The other two returnees were 7th graders, Michael L and Liam B. The returning golfers formed a nice core group, and their experience helped lead the new members of the team. The four new golfers gave a talented spark to the program. Aditya A, Callum L, Dylan F, and Kris K all showed improvement throughout the season. Some high points of the season were four individual Top-10 finishes. George P, Callum L, Cole B, and Michael L all finished the the Top 10 of different tournaments. This depth was a major benefit to the team, as the Vikings finished just two strokes away from a HJPC Championship. The 3rd place finish was the best in the three year history of the middle school program. With five of the eight middle school golfers returning, the Vikings will be a very strong team next season. Coach Brotherton is very excited about the current state of the program and beyond, saying “The development of the program has been a lot of fun. While we would love to win a HJPC Championship, our focus is on the development of our middle school golfers. If we do it the right way, then the success in the middle school should lead to future success for our high school program. Coach Petito is doing a tremendous job of building a program that is connected from 6th thru 12th grade. The future is very bright for Village Vikings Golf.”

This year’s middle school golf team has a nice blend of experience, and young talent. The team features eight players, with four returners from last year’s squad. Returning for the Vikings are 8th graders, Cole B and George P. The returning 7th graders include Michael L and Liam B. All four of the players have shown a lot of improvement in their games.

“When you have returning golfers, the thing that we are looking for is improved consistency. These four are hard workers, who will set the tone for us throughout the season.”

Four new golfers will help bolster the squad’s talent and depth. The new faces include 8th grader, Aditya A, as well as two 7th graders, Callum L, and Dylan F. Rounding out the team is the lone 6th grader, Kris K.

“The four new players have shown a ton of potential, and will compete to earn one of our team spots at the HJPC Championship. The increased competition will only make our team better.”

The Vikings’ finished in 3rd place in their first tournament. Michael L led the way, shooting a 43 at Hermann Park Golf Course. Cole B opened his season with a 45. George P and Liam B also competed. The next tournament for the team is Wednesday, March 8th, and will feature the four new middle school golfers.

The Varsity boys golf team competed in their first tournament of the year on Tuesday, February 21st. The boys team played the South Course at Blackhorse Golf Club in a large field with 100 other boy golfers in the field.

The Vikings graduated 3 of their Varsity players from last year’s team, including All-State golfer, Ross Brown. The Vikings return 1 Senior, Daniel P, and have had a large influx of youth into the program. This year’s team has 7 underclassmen on the roster. Coach Petito, new Head of the Golf program, is very excited to coach this group, saying “They are very eager to learn and they are extremely coachable. The great thing about coaching young guys is that we are able to mold them from a young age into the type of golfer and person that will represent the school and the direction of the program.” Coach Petito credits former Head of the program and current Assistant Coach, Doug Brotherton, saying “Coach Brotherton did a remarkable job of laying the groundwork for the identity of the program. These young guys understand the level of expectation and accountability that we hold ourselves too. They were able to watch our Seniors last year and understand the amount of work that went into their success. The success we have experienced in the past is a credit to the culture and atmosphere Coach Brotherton created for the program. Our hope is to build from that and challenge our young players to play throughout the year.”

The Vikings are back in action on Monday, February 27th as they compete in the Mayde Creek Golf Tournament at Pine Forest Country Club. Good luck to all of our Viking golfers this year. Go Vikings!
