The Village Lady Vikings are coming off of the best season in school history, with a 24-7 record, and a trip to the TAPPS 4A Quarterfinal. This success was sparked by a group of juniors, who return for their senior year, with extremely high expectations. To make the task even tougher, the Lady Vikings will compete in TAPPS 6A. They are also playing an extremely challenging non-District schedule.

“Last year was a tremendous year. Our success occurred because of our ability to attack the daily process of getting better. This year, we are a new team, which will face new challenges. Our biggest challenge is our lack of depth, as half of our roster has very limited experience. We have also put together one of the toughest schedules in school history. Throughout this season, we will play multiple 6A public schools, SPC teams, and could see over ten state-ranked opponents. We are even scheduled to compete against a potential McDonald’s All-American (Alexis Morris, #18 ranked player in the country). This schedule will prepare us for our District schedule, in January, as we aim to make another run at the State Tournament,” Coach Brotherton said.

The team will be led by four seniors; Starlyn F, Amber P, Elisa F, and Caren E. Junior Liz M and Sophomore Kennedy D will also play very critical roles in the success of the team.
“There is no doubt that our program has elevated to its current level, because of the work put in by our seniors. Starlyn and Amber came to the Village School three years ago, and helped change the culture of our program. Elisa joined us last year, and has been a huge part of our success. Caren is a ‘program kid,’ as she has worked her tail off to develop over her four years. This group has put our program on the map. I am forever grateful to these seniors, their families, and it is our mission to honor them with a wonderful season,” said Coach Brotherton.

Our basketball season has come to an end and it is filled with lots of memories. We ended the season with a record of 2-9. This record does not reflect the progression of our players. We had several girls with very little experience. They continued to work hard and develop long lasting relationships with our coaches and teammates. Overall, we were able to travel to San Antonio, be a part of the Vikings vs. Cancer game honoring a Village teacher, and compete against great competition. I appreciate all the support for our ladies. Go Vikings!

Our Lady Vikings JV Basketball team has been working very hard our first half of the season! Our girls have been putting in time in on the court and in the weight room. We continue to learn more and more about the game, as most of our girls, this is the first time they have played basketball. We opened our season in San Antonio against KIPP University – San Antonio. We fought hard, and came out with a win. It was extremely exciting for everyone. We continued our season playing Katy High School, St. Johns, and Waltrip High School. Two out of the three were tight games. Our girls will now be with family for Christmas Break. We look forward to our return with CHSM right out the gate on January 5, 2016 at 5:30PM with our Varsity Girls following at home. We appreciate all the support our Girls Basketball program receives. We send a Happy Holidays from the Girls JV program!

The Village School Girl’s Basketball programs continues to make strides in growth. This year our JV Girls team will be coached by Jennifer Thomas who has been an Assistant for Coach Doug Brotherton for two years at the Varsity level.

Our JV program has a roster of 14 girls. We have four returning from the previous season: Sarah A, Katherine Z, Alex A, and Melanie D. We have nine students who are apart of our boarding program on campus. Some of our students do not have much experience playing organized basketball, however, we are working hard and making progress daily.

Recently, we took a team trip to the city of San Antonio where we won our first game of the season against KIPP University – San Antonio. It was a great start to our season and we look forward to adding on to this accomplishment.
