2008 Buccaneers Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Jan 27, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The 2008 Season for the Buccaneers again saw them not be able to field enough players for a Varsity Squad, So they soldiered on with a JV Squad and the newly created Pee Wee Squad. It was the second season for Head Coach Chris Calta.

The JV Squad did a bit of a reversal by posting a 2-6 mark as opposed to the 6-2 mark they had finished with in 2007. Coach Calta was pleased with their progress the players made as the season went on since there were some new faces on the squad. The biggest obstacle in the JV Division was scheduling and the strength of some of the Strongsville team.

The new Pee Wee Squad had it's struggles as did the other two BYFA squads since the rosters were created with 14 players. The division overall was a success but changes will be made in 2008 to beef up squad size and get the teams headed in a more learning that 'winning' attitude. They were coached by  Head Coach Dave Chaney and Assistants Greg Thomas and Kirk Vozar.

Stacey Stoll completed her 3rd season as Bucs Head Cheer Coach by coaching the Pee Wee Cheer Squad and Kathe Kriz coached the JV Squad.

The 2008 Season was the final season for the Buccaneers. After creation of the Pee Wee Division and the numbers that we had over the last 3 to 4 seasons the decision was made to dissolve the Bucs and draft the players onto the Jaguars and Jets Squads and continue on with just 2 teams. The Bucs had a good run in their 8 seasons of existance.

2008 Jaguars Season

Posted by Dave Rea at Jan 27, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
The 2008 season of Jaguar football saw the Varsity put up their biggest win total ever and also play the most games ever. They went 9-1 in the regular season, 12-1 overall, and made the playoffs for the 8th time and their 4th appearance in the Championship game losing by a score of 21-0 to the Brunswick Jets. They also had tournament action for the first time as they appeared in the Medina Kick Off Classic, going 3-0, but not making the final tier due to the tie breakers used.

Paul Fowler took over as interim Head Coach with the departure of Dave Kargle and he teamed with former Jaguar player Mike Arena as coached the players to a pretty good offensive and defensive performance. Coach Arena's defense put up 10 shutouts.

The JV Squad struggled to a 3-5 record during the season but finished the season playing better football than they did at the beginning which is the goal of all the teams every year. Third year Coach Eric Keller took over as JV Head Coach with Assistants Travis McCourt, Paul Schnepp, Greg Cook and Doug Manross.

The Jags Pee Wee Squad had a good season under 1st year Head Coach Jay Lowry and Assistants Carl Davis and Cleatus Varney.

Bille Conrad coached the Jags JV Cheer Squad and Sheila Schnepp was the Pee Wee Cheer Coach.

The 2009 Jets Varsity tooks some steps forward after coming off a 2008 season where there was an influx of new players. They fielded a squad that improved to a .500 record, they finished 4-4 in league play and  5-6 overall. They played much better as the season went on and were able to secure a playoff spot. Head Coach Steve Watkins along with Assistants, Mike Vogt, Art Clark and Zach Rhine guided the squad. The Jets made their 2nd tournament appearance at the Medina Kick Off Classic posting a 1-2 record.

The JV Squad went 6-2 in League play and 6-4 overall under 3rd year Head Coach Dan Kohler. They got into the playoffs but were eliminated in the first round by the Brunswick Jets. Coach Kohler was assisted by Dave Raco, Bill Graham and Greg Thomas. The Jets JV went 0-2 in their first appearance at the Medina Kick Off Classic.

The Pee Wee Squad was under the direction of Head Coach Dave Walker and Assistants Carmen Monaco and Mark Crooks. This division keeps score but does not award a Championship. The team is made up of 7 and 8 year olds and they are initiated from Flag to tackle football where they began giving them the basics they need to advance to the JV and Varsity levels.

Katie Raco, Jody Theis, Anne Murphy and Ginger Heberlein coached the Jets Varsity Cheerleaders. Becky Casteel and Sara Smith coached the Jets JV Cheer Squad and Tammy Potter coached the Pee Cheer Squad.
